What is the best HUD display, calculator...

I already know about pokertracker and used it in the past.

I want to bump this and ask about Holdem Indicator. Has anyone here tried it out, and if so what do you all think? The reviews seem very favorable.

I had never heard of Holdem Indicator, but I would check with the site(s) I play on before even running the trial version. This passage from the features list is the reason why:

<LI class=main>Opponent Stats helps you better understand your opponent's playing styles. You can even run Hold'em Indicator while you wait to sit at a table, collecting vital player information - before you ever risk a cent! NO other poker calculator on the market has this feature!

If memory serves me correctly, most sites frown upon "datamining," and that's what this appears to be. According to http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/prohibited/, Holdem Indicator is allowed on PokerStars, but that page also says that you may not use such software to collect information and hand histories if you're not in the hand. So, at least on PokerStars, you'd have to turn Holdem Indicator's datamining feature off (if that's possible).

Anyway, like I said, I'd just e-mail the site(s) that I play on and check to see if it's OK.

My biggest reason for wanting something like this is to have a sense of history of my opponents that can be easily accessible while I'm at the table. I write notes for players on occasions, but this seems like it would make things a whole lot easier.

Notes would still be helpful, but a HUD is great. I use PokerAce, and it's helped me quite a bit. Holdem Indicator looks really nice, though, and I'll probably try out the trial version.

I use Poker Office and have been real happy with it. It has the notes feature, and the active window shows you current session stats as well as historical. It also has the 'rating' system built into the HUD as well.
