I found this a very interesting read (if a bit long...)

thats an excerpt from a book called "the world without us", which coincidentally, i returned today

i found it very long and tedious. the 2nd chapter went over what would happen to new york city (a river in 20 years, cool...what happens to the botanical gardens which has a lot of tree imports - not so cool).

in the end it was a boring read, but cool for little nuggets of information i guess.

The guy who wrote it was on Science Friday on NPR a couple of weeks ago and I got a similar impression from him talking. Some interesting stuff but a lot of watching paint dry.

"In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway." - Tyler Durden

*cough*

sounds great

Honestly...i'm all for a die-off.

Call me whatever you will, but I don't think we're being good stewards of the planet. And sooner or later mother nature will regulate, she has her ways.

whether's it a total extinction, or a more malthusian die-off, it's needed

Heard about this on NPR the other day and was curious.
