I'm busy trying to type up a document that requires me to think back and remember details (from my notes) of a meeting that happened a little less than a week ago. As I started, three people congregated outside an office on the other side of my cube wall and talked for about 20 minutes about general work gripes.

Then I got 5 minutes of peace and quiet, got my head back around the notes and started typing away.

And then now someone's just come to the cube next to me to welcome back that occupant from a week's vacation. They greeted each other loudly and are now sharing their thoughts about New York City.

I feel like banging my head against my desk.

OK, now two people are having a phone conversation. One is in the cube next to me, and one is in an office (with an open door) about 10-15 feet away. And they're talking loudly.

You should chill in my building. Hardly ever anyone talks around here. I probably even talk to people I work directly with just once or twice a day for a couple minutes each.

Crank up your headphones.

Come into my office when I'm off the phone. I need to talk to you about company time vs. your time.

I love cubes. I hated it when I had an office. I want people all around me that I can talk to and I want those around me to overhear my discussions about technical aspects of my job. It helps them absorb more knowledge, and gives them an opportunity to jump into the discussion if they have knowledge on the subject.
