He wasn't slurring his words, but I can't think of another explanation for why Mike Patrick decides to go off on the wildest tangent in college football broadcast history right before the game winning play in the overtime finish of the Alabama-Georgia game.

Patrick sucks. He and Vitale spend all day talking about everything BESIDES the action on the field.
I'm surprised he didn't talk about duke basketball in there somehow.

That confused the hell out of me, even the other guys in the booth were like ".....................umm what?"
I think one of the youtube commenters had it right (amazing i know) in that it was an attempt to make light of the gravity of the situation. That said, it was pretty poorly executed and not funny. I pretty much loathe most American sports announcers.

Mike Patrick has always had 0/0 ratings for subtlety and humor.

"Who?"
"What?"
"Why do we care?"
Bravo to that announcer, whomever he may be.

Does he have any teenage daughters? Sometimes announcers say totally random things as a "hello" to people watching at home. Even if so, it was pretty bad timing on his part .

I was watching the late-night replay of this game, and I heard this...I just sort of shook my head.

I think I get what Mike Patrick was trying to do, but as my man MattJones4Heisman said, it was very poorly executed. That was a joke gone completely wrong.

Yeah, I remember while watching the game thinking... WTF?!! But thinking back, I also believe he was making a joke about the gravity of the moment.

Todd Blackledge, I think. I was watching that game, and was caught off guard too - but agree, sounded like a "So, how about those Mets" moment to break the tension.
Brad Nessler ftw.
