Rudy (26), McCain (24), Jim Gilmore (23), Tancredo (23), Paul (21). Pretty much a push across the board. All of the GOP candidates get a big "meh" from me. And don't get me started on the Democratic candidates and their race to out-nationalize each other.

I got a host of Democrats at 24 and a host of Pubs at 18, which tells me what I already knew...I really don't like any of them.

Richardson (31)
Edwards (31)
Kucinich (29)
Obama (27)
Clinton (27)
First Republican is Guiliani (24)
Though I'm a Hillary backer... if there was a runoff system in the Dem primaries, I'd be right on board with Richardson.

I got Obama and Clinton in a dead heat at 32.
Lucky I don't have a vote as I wouldn't know what to do with it.

I got Romney at 35 and Gilmore at 33.
Duncan Hunter (who?) was next at 31, Tancredo & Guilliani at 27, Thompson at 23 (which surprises me quite a bit).
Like several others have already commented, this basically told me what I already know: I'm not thrilled with any of the choices.

The NY Times will give you a discount on the annual subscription if you vote for Hillary or Obama! Don't pass this opportunity up!
I had a bunch of 27's and 24's across party lines.
I sent the link to my wife (who's a hardcore liberal) and she had 100% agreement with Dennis Kucinich, whoever the hell that is.

McCain - 16
Dodd - 15
Then a lot of 12's, Giuliani, Paul, Obama.

Hunter (who?) 36
Brownback 33
I really agree that this feels like a least of all evils.
I also think we are looking at one of the few single term presidents in recent history

Biden - 43
Guiliani - 35
Romney - 34
Obama - 33

McCain - 30
Interesting since if I was held at gunpoint and forced to choose a side, I'd go Republican.

There... it worked.
Dodd (who?) and Gravel (who?) came up tied at #1 with 33.
Kucinich at #3 with 31.
Ron Paul had 26 along with Clinton and Obama.
Not surprisingly, Tancredo, Huckabee and Thompson each came in at a whopping 1.

However I directly oppose their positions on Iraq. I may look into Richardson.

I got Gravel (46), Kucinich (44), Dodd (42), Richardson (39), Clinton (37), Obama (37)
I suspect Kucinich would be the winner if he wasn't afraid to give his real position on abortion.
Among the GOP, Ron Paul was the winner at 27. Jim Gilmore is way at the bottom with 3. Apparently, I only agree with him on Energy.

Biden - 33
Edwards - 33
Richardson -33

then a bunch of other repubs below 22
I disagree with just about every democrat on social security (i think i put not sure) and immigration (since I put the fence/no citizenship/other stuff one)
sterlingice
09-24-2007, 04:10 PM
Clinton 37
Obama 37
Dodd 34
Kucinich 34
and at the bottom:
McCain 4
Huckabee 3
Thompson 3
Biden, who if I had a choice, would be my candidate is at 25
I apparently agree with most stuff on the Dems side except Iraq and Immigration. Apparently I match up with Brownback on Iraq and Tancredo on immigration. However, none of the immigration answers are appealing to me since I believe in a combination of items not on the list and line up closer to the GOP than Dems on that.

Kucinich is my favorite though, so it did get that right.

I've tried a bunch of these, and I've gotten crazily different answers, and once again here, I have a pretty bizzare top 5:
Brownback, Dodd, Kucinich, Giuliani, Romney.
And I consider myself a "conservative libertrarian with exceptions".

Me too, and I got Paul, Brownback, Gilmore, Hunter, and Romney. I would think you'd have Paul on yours too since he's the conservative libertarian of the field. I disagree with him mostly on social issues where he's more conservative than I am but economic issues, immigration, and Iraq I'm pretty much in step with him.

After a lifetime in politics, I am wondering if I will ever see "the real deal" and I don't mean Holyfield, again.
Just from a personal standpoint, I feel like I will know it when I see it, and this field gives me zero inspiration.

I guess one good thing about this sort of stuff (other than it largely confirming many of our preconceptions) is that it'll probably prompt at least a tiny bit of voter education. For example, I'm still not particular curious about Duncan Hunter even though he appeared around the top of my list, I am curious about the couple of his positions where we differ to see why he didn't actually score higher than he did

No surprise here:
Everyone scored below 22 with the highest Dem (Biden) at 12. Clinton and Obama at 4 each. A lot of the issues are not important to me because most all of them takes a non-libertarian either/or point-of-view. For example, I have a defineable position on marriage but I am against any Constitutional amendment. They don't give me that option, just like the others.

You and I should be closer but I think the scores are weighted towards how much you care about the issues.
Clinton and Obama scores are no surprise since the opposite of libertarianism is socialism.

Yeah, I didn't really think this quiz helped me out at all. I had a hard time with some of the options, and some of the questions were really things I don't care about.
That said, Giuliani topped my list, but only with 29 points. Gilmore was 2nd with 26, and Duncan Hunter was third with 25. Top rated Democrat was Barack Obama with 13.
Not paying any attention to this poll, I've actually been really impressed with Mike Huckabee. His speech to NRA members on Friday was absolutely fantastic, and even his appearances on the Colbert Report have been pretty darn good.

They also, as you said earlier, are too Liberal vs. Conservative in the responses. Answering one way implies the other in these answers. For example, the stem-cell research question. I put "No", but I think the creators of the test take "No" to also be against that research at all on moral grounds.
I'm all for stem-cell research. Kill the popcicle embryos, I don't care. I just don't think the federal government should fund it. This test doesn't provide all of the possible options, just the Liberal vs. Conservative ones.
If it did, I suspect McCain would not be nearly as high on my list (Although still hopefully higher than Rudy and Romney...)

Apparently, they all are lousy for me with Hunter topping the list at 19. Biden was the top Dem with a "5". Obama, Hillary, and John Edwards tanked at "1".
As others have noted in their answering, I also found it a little annoying that there were too many "absolute" positions on rather weighty subjects that most Americans would try to do some compromising and difference-splitting.
Young Drachma
09-24-2007, 11:35 PM
I think the absoluteness of the answering in that survey is indicative of a growing, but worrying trend in the sustained perception of American people. For everyone who will declare in an interview that they are AGAINST this and FOR that, when you get them one-on-one or it's a situation that directly affects them, the circumstances sometimes change their perception.
