I visited the area a couple of weeks ago on a franchise visit. I'll be in Portland in a few weeks on another one. It's a beautiful area, but I wish the damned thing would stop forming cones and threatening ot blow up again.

I saw one of those disaster shows on what would happen if Ranier blew it's lid the other day too. I really need to stop watching those types of shows, especially before these trips.

If Mt Ranier goes up that entire region will be a wasteland for many years....

Yeah, it's pretty active right now. It's almost scarier now that it's in HD. You can see a lot clearer just how quickly that cone in the center is growing. I remember a couple of years back when that was just a vent with no cinder cone. It now is several hundred feet high. They expect the mountain to fill itself back in to it's pre-eruption size in 15-20 years assuming no explosive eruptions.
