UAW Strike: How (if at all) it may affect you?

I work for Chrysler Financial but our center is Unionized for some reason, the only one in the US. Our contract runs up the 27th and although a deal is near completion per office scuttlebutt we may strike anyway as a show of solidarity. It's pretty lame and I feel bad for anyone striking. I personally don't need this job, it's just a really nice luxury that pays for my school but it's not something I need to survive. The ones that have a mortgage and such I feel awful for.

Anyway, just seein' if there are any FOFC'ers this directly (or indirectly) effects?

My wife worked for Chrysler Financial in Overland Park a few years ago. Asbsolutely hated it. Sounds like the working conditions are better where you are at.

The KC Call Center is like the second biggest I believe, so I am sure it's more hectic. Up here it is what it is. I don't take it too seriously. I just do my work, bullshit with people and let them pay for my school. I can see it being a place that is awfully stressful and annoying if it's a career type thing, that's for sure.

Part of it was circumstance, too, for her. It was more of a "job to pay the bills until I can actually find a job I want in a field I went to school for" sort of way.

I work for Ford, and aside from giving us something to talk about - there really isn't any direct effect. (And I'd be REALLY surprised if your place were to strike). Of course, we'll support our union brothers and sisters in any way we can; but as a whole .. GM and their workers are the only ones effected.

UAW will negotiate with GM until a contract is reached - and Ford and Chrysler shouldn't be an issue until that contract is brought to them. Usually, aside from a few tweaks, the 3 are pretty close to the same.


To them - hopefully the strike results in a fair & fast contract ... you all can get back to work soon. Hopefully before too much financial damage is done.

I too work for ford, And i find it insane that we know little to nothing about whats going on with the contract.. what we do know is strictly from the internet (and we all know how reliable that is)

It's going to fuck me over at work, since there is a local plant and a lot of those people buy tvs and such. Hopefully the effects won't be as bad as I think they'll be. Several people at work had already lost a several thousand dollar sale due to it. I dunno if they were planning on it being a bad strike, but it sounds like a possibility.
