Brown's former deal also ran through 2004, with a much larger base salary -- $6 million for this season, and a cap figure of $7.63 million. The Raiders are now approximately $6 million under the NFL's $75 million salary cap limit.

5:39 PT: The San Francisco Chronicle reports Oakland Raiders WR Jerry Rice signed a six-year, $30 million contract extension with the Raiders, his agent said Monday. Rice's reworked deal, as is the case with most "blockbuster" NFL extensions, is heavily backloaded to provide cap savings, said Rice's agent, Jim Steiner.
