Pardus is a space sim where three different factions (Union, Federation, and Empire) struggle for control of the Orion universe. I'm a Union pilot, a capo for the ERA alliance.

I began playing Pardus.at as a way to help pass the time out in Africa. It didn't require much time, I could waste my move points (AP) fairly quickly, it helped out a buddy, and more importantly, helped me waste time.

Essentially, I'd go in for work, spend my 5000 AP tooling around Wainze and the surrounding sectors. when the AP was used up, I'd log out. I'd return the next day to a replenished 5000 AP, which is the max AP you can have. I didn't worry about making money, ranking, or anything like that. I just did what I was told, which is essentially what I've done for other friends in other games.

I'm a human in the game, which meant I started out on Sol, the far left of the map. With my friends being in Wainze, it meant I had a small trip on my hands. I eventually found my way over to Wainze, thanks to the map I linked here.

There I built buildings as requested, killed space maggots, took stuff from one building to another, and generally just wasted time.

I became more interested in the game and how to do well within the game after I returned to the United States. I began to try and do things that would help me succeed, such as rank and do missions that would increase my cash flow. Buildings help with cash flow, so I continued to rank in order to help get more building slots.

Buildings don't just help the user, they help the local starbase owner as well. The commodities are used by the SB owner to help create ships, weapon systems, and other special devices used by ships.

It had been my experience in the past that the starbase owner will assist pilots in creating the buildings (by providing supplies). It's a win-win situation.

That's where my first problem began.

A reaction to the failures of Junker IV, this is the Union's attempt at a bulk carrier. Reverse engineering stolen Babels and Constrictors, Union engineers put together a cargo carrier to meet their needs. They sacrified armour for a strengthened hull, reasoning that these ships would work on protected supply routes. Now beginning to fall into private ownership, they can make their owners rich, if they can afford to fill the cargo hold to start with.

The reason I went to Wainze in the first place is because Hell Ghallen, my friend from Hattrick, asked me to. He was the starbase owner and Capo of the sector. A few months later, he was promoted to a higher position and gave up the base and capo-ship to another user...who in turn later gave it to another user.

Earlier this year, I successfully ranked to a position where I could have another building. I had moved into a fighting ship and began blasting space maggots and young space dragons away. I was stoked about the new building...it was supposed to be a cash cow of sorts as I recall. I was frustrated to find out the newest SB owner wanted me to provide the materials for the building...materials that weren't exactly easy to obtain in the area.

To me, that was the final straw in what was a strained relationship between me and this pilot/capo. We had past problems communicating with each other and understanding where the other was coming from.
I spoke with another friend in the game who was running a different sector, UG 5-093. He let me know he'd take better care of my buildings and I'd see a better profit from them. I felt I could trust him more than the guy I currently worked for...ran it past Hell Ghallen, and blew up my buildings to head for UG 5-093.

Wires were crossed and Hell Ghallen didn't realize what I was asking when I asked if I could blow up my buildings. A storm brewed for days, weeks, maybe even months. I did pay two individuals some credits back for their assistance in the initial building...but I just recently spoke with that capo for the first time since the incident.

To be frank, back then I didn't care what they thought. I was fairly pissed off. I wasn't happy with losing money through my buildings in Wainze and extremely pissed off when I was told I'd have to provide my own materials for the next building.

I moved to UG 5-093, where Westerndave and Blue Angel (both hattrickers) helped set me up with a smelter (two of them, in fact), recyclotron, and radiation collector. I instantly saw a difference as I was clearly making a profit without doing anything.

Speaking of not doing anything...that's what I had going on. At the time I was still shooting anything that moved. I had moved on to killing bigger and better things. I enjoyed collecting medals for killing different creatures, including a couple I still have no business fighting. I've been very lucky a number of times.

However, I started to get to the point where I was nearly tapped out on what I could kill and still have reasonable gains in my skills. I knew I needed to eventually climb out of my current fighter and into something bigger and better. There are credits to be made by completing missions as a fighter, but in general credits are easier to obtain by transporting goods.

Stocking, which requires a ship with large amounts of cargo space, is a way to gain credits in order to fund the larger fighters. Essentially, you go from building to building in a sector ensuring that the building has the materials it needs to produce goods. You provide the material, you take away the goods. You make a profit.

You can spend a month or two (maybe longer) doing this and then eventually be able to upgrade to a better fighter. My goal was a bit loftier, I wanted to save up enough for the best fighter I could possibly obtain.

The next problem for me was finding a place where I could stock. UG was being stocked 24/7, there was no opportunity for me there.
I eventually found an opportunity in Turais, at the Jewel of Isis. Jewel had a need for stocking, and I did what I could. It wasn't exactly a huge profit margin for me, I'm not sure I actually made money at it, but I figured the time I invested in stocking there may eventually pay off.
It did pay off when the owner went on vacation and asked if I could temporarily take over. I happily accepted and ran the base for about two weeks. I had little clue as to what I was doing, I just didn't want the place to blow up while I was in charge.

It didn't. It was fun running the place, but it made me realize that Jewel may never be a place where I could profit. The base itself was losing money (it shares the sector with another alliance...and the sector really doesn't have the materials it needs to be a success).

I eventually bowed out of the area and began to freelance, shipping materials in and out of Homam. Stocking buildings didn't provide much of a profit, but stocking the planet did. I ran missions as well so I could promote to the rank of "chief."

I found out I was in the running for the stocking position at UG or as the new owner of Midgar Station, the starbase in UG. The starbase came with a hefty pricetag, but supposedly would be made in no time. The stocking position interested me more. I knew the credits could be obtained stocking, and I wouldn't have to worry about running the base or finding a new owner eventually. I knew I'd have my grand warship in no time.
Miscommunication set in, though. I was eventually passed up for both spots, which didn't make me happy. I could understand the reasoning for owning the starbase, I surely wasn't ready for that...but I remember specifically responding in the affirmative to being the stocker for the sector.

So I was passed up, like chopped liver, and not happy. Both westerndave and blue angel were not gone, and I was having to deal with two people I wasn't particularly fond of at the moment.

I resisted the temptation to destroy the buildings and go rogue. It was tempting, but I decided I'd wait it out. I did take the time to use some of my own materials to upgrade my buildings.

Eventually, I was asked to stock the sector, which I accepted. It took some work in the beginning. The sector's rather large in that there's a lot of buildings to maintain. Eventually I got it down. I was up to 13 million credits.

Fast forward to last week. The owner of the starbase asked if I'd be willing to take over, without paying anything...with the understanding that ERA actually owns the base. In other words, when I depart, I give the base to someone else without expecting a payment.

I accepted. I'm now the capo for UG 5-093 and owner of Midgar Station. I may keep this position and give up my dreams and slaughtering the creatures of Pardus.

Nice read, ae. I just got into the game, and it looks nice. Hoping to hook up once I'm done with the tutorial.

Thanks. I enjoyed the game leisurely out in Africa. I found myself trying to maximize my AP (movement points) when I returned. AP regenerates slowly throughout the day, but there's a cap of 5000. Logging in once a day ensures you have 5000 AP to work with, but if you log in...say one other time and spend about 1000 AP or so...when you log in later you would still have the 5000 AP.

Then there's shooting space maggots. You can't go wrong there.

Neon, if you want to join up with me, you're best race is likely Keldon (I believe you'd start out closest to me). It'll still likely take a day or so to reach me. Once you get here I could help you get set up for a building (most likely a radiation collector or smelter).

Bet you're out of AP. Shoot me a message as to your XP level. If all is well, we'll work on putting a building together for you (at my cost).

Being the capo essentially means I'm in charge of any problems we have in my sector. Fortunately, I don't know that we've had many issues in the past. Perhaps my only issues at the moment are finding a replacement for myself as a stocker and the building prices for goods at the plastic facilities. I'm not overly concerned about the plastic facilities, a stocker can make cash without a profit from them, but I'll speak the owners about that.

The stocking position is a thorn in my side. I thought I had a nice potential recruit in Hawk eye, but he's been nothing but a hassle for the past week. I've relieved him of his responsibility.

Another potential stocker, rockhopper, would likely be great at the job, but needs to rank and build his experience first. I may end up stocking on my own for now and try to manage Midgar Station as well. It's a bit of a stretch, but the best I can do for now.

I currently have two ship orders in, one for Hell Ghallen (who's now the 'Don' of ERA), and one for Colbey Revan. HG's ship is ready, just needs to be paid off. That'll be a bit as he needs to gain some experience as well. Colbey's stuff is in the works as I type this.

I have one more potential ship in the works. I've been panhandling for ship orders since I took over. I'm trying to increase the ship production of Midgar. If I'm successful, it's my goal to share profits with my stocker and with my building owners. I figure I'll continue to get a majority share of the profit, but split the remaining profit in shares with my stocker(s) and with the building owners. Something along the lines of 50/25/25, where the stocker gets 25% and the building owners get a portion of the remainder...depending on how many buildings they have in the sector.

UG 5-093 has undergone a slight facelift over the past 6 months. We've lost a number of buildings, mostly smelters that provide the metal for ships and weapon systems. As such, I think our production has gone down.
One of my first orders of business has been to replace some of the buildings that have disappeared. I've had one electronics facility and one smelter built. I'm looking to add two or three more smelters and a radiation collector to the mix.

I do have to import two items, and it might need to be three. Animal embryos are in demand as my space farms go through them quickly. Water is always in demand, but my starbase goes through water faster than I can keep up. I'm hoping Hawk Eye will see that as an opportunity to make some quick credits, but I doubt it.

My first acts as capo were not huge. I started building a scorpion (huge ship) and it's equipment. Additionally, I helped set up an electronics facility to the northeast. I want to believe that will eventually be of use to me. I'm hoping to eventually set up a robot factory/droid assy complex. To get that little chain going, I need more optics, rad cells, metal, FWE (food, water, energy), and electronics. I can knock out the electronics now, I just need to add the other buildings and hopefully I'll be set.

Robots and droids help in a variety of ways, from defending buildings and repairs to ships. It's also fairly profitable.

I also assisted one of my movoda buddies in building a smelter. The smelter provides metal, the metal helps me with ships and weapons. Additionally, I helped FOFCer Neon_chaos with a smelter as well.

Hawk eye continues to be a problem for me. I wish I could just remotely blow his buildings up and call it a day. I wish the kid would quit. He's annoying. I've continually told him what he needs to do and he refuses to listen.

Finally, yesterday I bit the big one. A wormhole anomoly ripped my ship to pieces. Lucky for me I had an escape pod. Unlucky for me, my home world is far off. I spent 2000 AP just to get back to UG.

I need to take 4000 AP and make my homeworld closer, but my AP are better spent working around the sector for now.

Surprisingly, we're losing money right now at Midgar Station. Not so surprising to me, however.

In setting up the three buildings (including Neon's) the theory is you have to spend money to make money. We're counting those buildings as investments.

I've been generous as well in handing out what seems to be large cash amounts, though in reality 100k isn't much to me. However, 100k was a ton for me when I was a rookie pilot like Neon. I'm glad to help out.

Additionally, the starbase had been changed from it's glory days...for one reason or another. I'm not going to ask why, but it was painfully obvious to me when I took over.

We had only two bays to build ships, but had multiple factories to build armor, shields, and weapons. We actually need more ship bays (one of each) and another weapon factory, but we had to tear down a weapons factory. We still need to tear down a drive and armor factory...but we're on our way.

As I speak, more useful items are being created at Midgar...and more would be on the way...but I have to wait to let current drive and armor orders clear out before tearing down one of each of those buildings.

Weapons are now filing through at a fast pace, and are being picked up almost immediately after being made available. That's great news for Midgar and UG.

The goal is to profit share. Right now we're losing money so it's not possible. When I first took over, we had about 19 million combined credits (not including stock). Right now, we're at about 15, with a couple of million owed to us in ship orders.

If there's a profit at the end of the month, I plan on sharing it, no matter how big or small.

The new stocker, a guy who somewhat mysteriously showed up from another alliance, has done a good job. He leaves me some work to do around the sector, and I don't mind that. He takes care of 80% of it, and I'm grateful for that.

Hawk eye continues to be a thorn, but he's at least easing up. He hasn't sent me a message in at least 3 hours.

UG (pronounced You Gee) buildings have come under fire by the pilot "hairypirate". Fortunately, none of the three buildings were heavily damaged, but enough is enough.

I place a rather large 150k credit bounty on his head, to begin in 12 hours (must wait 24 hours for some reason, and I did it just over 12 hours ago). I suspect this loser will be slaughtered in no time flat.

Don't mess with me.

Because of this, I went ahead and helped upgrade the two new buildings. I add an advanced defensive drone to each...probably costing Midgar Station about 400k in addition to the 150k on the bounty.

Money well spent.

Tony's going to help with the minor stocking need that Midgar needs from out of the sector.

Some profitable routes:
Gienah to Midgar. Energy to Gienah, water to Midgar.
Sirius to Midgar. Energy to Sirius, food to Midgar.
Homam to Matar. As much as I hate to admit it, I ran food and water to Matar for mucho profit. I'd yank energy from Matar's boundaries and return to Homam.
Procyn to Midgar. Umm, honestly I don't know what you could take to Procyn, but Midgar usually is in need of 100 or so animal embryos a day. Procyn has them for free.
Procyn to Sirius. Procyn does need food and water...which you could pick up from Sirius. So, on your way to Procyn for my embryos, you could take energy to Sirius, food/water to Procyn, and then embryos to Midgar.

Win, win, win. Each route has built in profit and it's routes like these where I made my money.

Last night I was undercut on a bid for a large ship, the Scorpion. The Scorpion has been UG's pride and joy. The ship we can build for a price no one can beat. Unless, it appears, you're The Crazy Peacemakers, the alliance that has undercut me.

They're offering the ship for more than a million credits less, which likely means they're making less than 5% profit. Per ship we tend to make somewhere in the region of 7-10.

There's talk in the Capo Council that perhaps we need to get out of the ship building business and into the war machine building business. I'm game for whatever. I was looking to add more bots/droids/heavy weapons anyway.

I'll keep you informed.

Take one of the trading routes I listed earlier. Get a better ship as soon as you can. Be sure to catch me online later for some cash to help you out.

SOS

We're in DIRE need of animal embryos. As is, this time tomorrow we will not be able to stock sector space farms. That would result in a food shortage for the sector in two to three days time. We need embryos!

To make matters worse, Procyn, the SB to our northwest, is at their minimum for some reason as well! I think the SB to the southeast has them, but I can neither confirm nor deny that.

Recall of the SOS. We're back up to 600-700 tons of embryos. We're safe for a few more days. :)

I joined tonight and still don't have much of a clue as to what I am doing. I am Sabotai Bagatur and I have arrived in your sector. Yes, the SB to the SE of you (in Nekkar) has a lot. 6k+ as of right now.

EDIT: nm :D

Welcome to Pardus. I need to get a few of you set up with a building, but I have to be able to spare the AP first.

The ongoing rebellion by a small group of Empire separationists against their rulers has gained a new dimension. As GNN uncovers first, this nameless group was supported by a powerful external entity through loopholes in the Empire's border controls. Since it was found out that some of the separationist's technological devices all share specific similarities to those only available to high-ranking Union members, an Union inside job seems obvious. Union officials have categorically declined these allegations, though without giving any clarifications. As a result, the Empire announced the retraction of their chief diplomats from Union space in the following days.

Still trucking along. Was earning about 40k-50k a day doing Sirius <-> Midgar food/fuel runs. Starting tomorrow I'm doing Homam <-> Matar water/energy runs, it might net me extra cash.

I'm not too concerned with the war, considering that we're deep in Union country. ae, is there anything you need from me? I think I can build another building if you want me to.

The energy, fuel, food, water run along Homam and Matar is excellent. I am netting about 100k credits a day doing this. Not a bad start. Hopefully, I can line up several consecutive missions to be able to upgrade my Faction ranking and my ship, ergo, my cargo hold.

It's been quiet so far here in the back regions of space. I guess I'll have to fly back to Midgar to check on AE once in a while.

Sadly, I will be turning over Midgar Station in two days to another user who can dedicate more time to it. I poured a lot of time into it for the past 6 months or so, but I can't keep it up.
