Looking for input as I look at buying a season for a game.

Hmmm, of those 5 it's hard to say. I started following baesball fanatically in 1970 but didn't settle on a favorite team until 1972 (the Reds). I had to endure the A's dynasty (ugh) before the Big Red Machine of 1975. But I voted for 1973 because it was close race in the NL West with the Reds jumping ahead in mid-September and the NY Mets coming from last place at the end of August to win the NL East (the Miracle Mets II).

Of those, I'd go with '73, mostly to see if Johnson, Aaron, and Evans could all hit 40+ HR again.
73 was a tight race in the NL, reds and dodgers both very good in the west and the east was a tossup with the mets, cards and bucs all around .500
AL had baltimore and oakland pretty clear-cut, but there were a bunch of 20 game winners apparently so you can monitor that.
is this for apba?

1975 or 1976.
By the way, I do not understand having only specific choices when given a general question.

I've already done quite a bit with 1978 and 1975/1976 and I want to get something earlier.

why not just buy ootp, import the lahman database, then play all of the seasons? :) that's what i'd do.

I play those games when I don't want total realism. I've just never been a huge fan of using ratings to determine stats when it comes to stuff that actually happened.

Then you should probably just get your hands on some video footage from the 1972 baseball season and watch that. It's the most realistic replay option.
