View Full Version : Bug problem...

I have a bug dilemma. We've lived in our house for 5 years. About once every 6-9 months we would find a big roach either in our garage, outside the front door, or occasionally inside the front entry way.

About 3 or 4 months ago, we had a rash of seeing big roaches. The first flew in the house from the garage and made a beeline for the master bathroom. We got the bug spray and killed it. Then, during a game night, there was a big one in the kitchen which was promptly killed. Then, another big one was seen later that same night in the den. About a week later, we saw another big one in the den as well.

Fed up with this, I went out and got some roach bait. I put it down in the garage, the entrance from the garage, the kitchen, the front entry way, and the guest bathroom. Within a week, I found about 10 dead roaches along the garage wall next to my neighbors (who have had previous roach problems). After that, I did not find any for about a month.

About two weeks ago, I found a small one in our bathroom. Followed a couple days later by another. I didn't think much of it, because I had not sprayed that particular wall. I checked the other areas with the bait and found no sign of the critters. A week ago, I found a small one dead in the kitchen.

I found another dead one in the den just before the weekend. Over the weekend I picked up some more spray/bait. Last night I cleaned up to prep for spraying, and found a number of dead ones in the kitchen by a floorboard where the caulk was cracked. These were all small ones, none larger than 1/4" long. I cleaned my bathroom this morning, and found about 10 really small ones (about 1/8" long) all dead.

My dilemma is should I call an exterminator to clean these dudes out? Or, since all of these guys have been found either dead or dying (except the little guy by the shower), should I just continue to spray and monitor the situation as I have. Mind you, until the last few days, I have found no evidence of roaches (poop, casings, etc.) anywhere aside from by the one baseboard joint.

I think you should do a trench and treat around the exterior of your home first.

Stupid EA. Why can't they ship games without bugs?!

That would freak the hell out of me and I'd abandon the house.

If your seeing the small ones, defo get the exterminator in STAT. Waiting even a couple of weeks will make it harder.Your under seige my friend.

I saw a roach in my apartment once (I knew the neighbors sheltered them) and immediately set up a defense perimeter like a Warcraft game. The farkers could never get through it. (I spent about $120 on every kind there was! lol)

Get the exterminator.
You are killing the mature ones as they venture out. Very likely there are larvae in your walls (not to gross you out, this is actually true of most houses) professional chemicals and application will take em out.

I am just amazed at how thorough your recollection of roach finding is. We usually find 2-3 a year and keep bait traps strategically placed. But I cant recall when or where the laast one is. To me iuts just no that huge of a deal.

One thing that catches my eye here is that you said that your neighbors hve had previous problems with roaches also.

This is a damned i you do damned if you don't scenario.

unles both you and your close neaighbors ALL get exterminators out there all you will do is drive the criters back and forth from house to house.

When one gets treated they move to the next nearest safe house, breed there and then try to spread back to the other houses. The only answer to this is to go big, powerful and wide spread with the chemicals all around your neighborhood.

In wall pest tubing is an awesome awesome invention.

That is exactly how I see it.

I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't. Regardless, I don't see the neighbors doing anything about it. They really don't seem to care. They are your typical rednecks who have money. Plus, the wife is a nut who doesn't believe in chemicals.

I have an irrational hatred of roaches. They are the one type of bug that creeps me out.

I don't have a problem if they stay inside the walls, I don't want them on the counters, the stove, etc., and so far, there has been no sign of them there. Not saying they haven't been there, but I have not seen any signs of them there.

There is one other explanation for them.

My best friend was in town right before these guys started cropping up. He had been in Peru, and had some issues with roaches getting in his bags about a week or two prior to coming down. He just found out that he had all sorts of problems with them at his place. The reason why I wonder about this is because that is the only way they would get over the barrier at the garage door and the front and back doors that I put down.

Exterminator.

If you're actually seeing them, especially the small ones, then you probably have a bigger roach problem than you realize.
