View Full Version : Should I or shouldn't I?

I've fallen in love with the city of Sevilla and there's an F.C. Sevilla-Real Madrid match on Nov. 4th in Sevilla.
The only problem is, tickets are looking at $250 for the cheapest price, $310 for the best of what's available. Throw in the nightly hotel room and we're looking a little over $500, which would be a very significant chunk out of my savings.
On the other hand, this might be the only chance I have to see that level of soccer/football.
But then again, I'm not sure if it's worth that much money to me.
So should I go or not?

It might be the only chance, or it is the only chance? Doesn't Sevilla play any other matches?
And are you sure you can't get tickets cheaper than that? When I saw Atletico Madrid play Valencia, my tickets were like $40.

Absolutely go.
The opportunity to attend such a cool event is too good to pass up, in my opinion.

They do have other home games that I could attend, but I don't know that the price is any cheaper.
If I could find cheaper tickets, I'd much more strongly consider it.

dola,
I'll check back tomorrow night with what else I've been able to dig up. Have to go now as I'm having to pay for this internet.

If that is the cheapest ticket I could find and it would be a significant chunk of my savings, I would pass. I went to Europe for 3 months when I was in college and had to pass on many things I wanted to do because I couldn't afford them. We are going back next year (actually it will be my wife's first time going, and it is tentative at this point) and I'll be doing a lot of the things that would have been a big hit to my savings then which I'll be able to enjoy more now, because they won't come with the baggage of serious financial implications.

I just think of some of the big EPL games that I've watched in the past involving any of the big 4 - they always seem to disappoint. There is a lot of pressure on the players and they don't seem to play all that well. I know Sevilla and Real Madrid are top teams in Spain and I would think it would be similar. I'd just hate to pay all that money and end up at a 0-0 sister-kisser.

If you're just curious about Sevilla, I'd wait till they play a lesser opponent than Real Madrid... that's probably what's driving up the price?

I was thinking that, too. Does it have to be Sevilla, and not Real Betis?

Real Madrid being the opponent is almost certainly driving up the price -- their fans are everywhere. Try the Mallorca match 2 weeks later.

I would guess with how you're estimating your hotel and travel costs you'd be paying at least $300 or $350 no matter who they were playing. At that point I'd pony up to see Real.
But at the same time, if it's that much relative to your savings and there isn't a quick recovery of that looming on the horizon (like a new job or something), I'd pass. Would this be a solo trip, or is it something a group of friends are putting together? Solo would push me more toward passing, whereas going with a good group would make it more worth it to me. (Also, if it's not a group thing, consider roping a buddy or two into things. Will help you save on the hotel.)

Wow, those ticket prices are crazy. I was at a top of the table Bundesliga game last year and I paid less than €25 for good tickets.

Thanks, guys :)
I've decided to pass and instead wait until a cheaper ticket comes along.
In the meantime, I'll try and catch tomorrow's Sevilla-Valencia game on TV (if it's on the all of 10-15 channels we get in my homestay and if the son, a Real Madrid fanatic, doesn't hog the TV)
