Here's the chart of the original number of nominations, along with seed numbers and then overall ranks. To break any ties in numbers of nominations, I flipped a coin if there were 2 bands tied. For ties of 3 or more, I drew names out of a cup. I know some rankings probably seem wonky. I tried to be as fair and nonpartisan as possible. I doubt many folks would really rank Green Day above Elvis, but that's what our nomination process led to. Small samples and whatnot led to odd results. I have little doubt the best groups will rise above whatever poor seedings they ended up with.

Rules:

I want voters to imagine for each matchup that they are at an event that features both bands playing at the same time. Also, imagine the band is at the peak of their careers. Maybe you liked Elvis before he got fat. Maybe you liked David Lee Roth's Van Halen, but hated Sammy Hagar's version. Maybe the Beach Boys haven't had a good song in 30 years. Doesn't matter. Just imagine each band at it's peak for you. Vote for the group you would choose to see, not necessarily the one that you think is more important to the history of music. You also have the option not to attend either concert, if you don't like either band. Please don't try to set up easier matchups for your favorite bands by voting against you true preference. Just choose the group you would go to see if given the choice.

In the event of a tie, subsequent matchups will be re-run until one band prevails.

Good luck to all the bands, and may the best band win. :)

That whole upper bracket is arguably better than anything else out there. Personally, I only count 14 other entries I'd consider even at the same level as those that are left in the top bracket, and there are some already eliminated (Rush, Iron Maiden, Van Halen) that are also up there for me. Pearl Jam shouldn't still be in it when CCR is unjustly sitting down on the corner with the rest of the losers! And they definitely shouldn't still be in it while Led Zeppelin got sent over the hills and far away by the Beatles. Those two should not have been matched up until the final 2!
