just got done playing over 2 hours of COD4. had to stop playing due to motion sickness. lots more fun than Halo, but also lots more hard. no special armor to regenerate, lots of easy kills in this game. and by easy kills i mean i die very easily. it runs very fast, unfortunately it seems as if the guys on the team always know what they're doing and i'm dying while trying to throw a grenade. the visuals are astounding. guess i just gotta keep at it, i already moved up several levels in MP (Lance Corporal II). fun game, but this one is gonna take me a while to get the hang of. too bad there isn't a beginners lobby, no fair getting stuck with a bunch of uber players.

Name a date and time. I think you can have up to 18 players or something like that.

Me and two other co-workers play COD2 at work and have a great time. We've tried several mods and we are currently using one that allows us to setup trip wires with grenades while playing a last man standing format with a time limit so it's fast with lots of killing yet there is some strategy and patience involved.
I'm going to download the COD4 demo today to see if my hardware can handle it. If so, I'll be buying it this week!!!!

I'd probably give this a try if I hadn't just bought Team Fortress 2 and The Witcher and became addicted to both. I've kind of got burnt out on the CoD-style campaigns, but maybe a change of scenery will change it up nicely.
I've never even bothered with the multiplayer in the past versions because it seemed so bland, so is it actually pretty good?

Same. Apparently the campaign clocks in at around six hours, so I may have to wait on this one, even though it looks like fun. Anyway, I have a feeling that there won't be much time for anything else once Mass Effect comes out.

Got the game on sell from Best Buy for 37.99 with some christmas gift card money the other day. So far I am playing mostly MP and am up to level 7 or 8. I am really enjoying playing MP with my AK47 and finally got the lazer sight for it. I really suck and my kill to death ratio is probably about 1:3 at this point which is horrible but I just don't have the twitchy reflexes I used to.

Got the game for Christmas and beat it within 2 days. Great game. I did think it was alittle short though. Can't wait to start playing it on Live.
No FPS game will allow you to walk into multiplayer and be immediately successful. Multiplayer requires a deeper knowledge of the game for success to be possible. It takes a good bit of skill as well, both raw and developed through practice.
You can't sit around and think in CoD4 multiplayer: you have to react, think rapidly, and make use of all of your knowledge of the game. It takes practice. Don't throw the muliplayer away because you have trouble in the first few games you play. Give it a fair shake. It's very good.
I've never been particularly good at FPSes in multiplayer, but I stuck through the tough beginning in CoD4 and have gotten pretty good. I almost never have more deaths than kills now, and break out with 2:1 kill:death games at least half of the time. I went from being about 400 kills behind deaths to being 200 ahead. I'm now level 43 and I'm loving the game more than ever.
I play the PC version. My username is echo.

I am starting to get the hang of multiplayer... I especially like it now that I have unlocked more of the "goal" oriented match modes like Ground War and Headquarters so I have a offensive of defensive mindset. It helps me to be able to focus on a task rather than wander around and try to kill people who could be anywhere on the map. This way I can use my brain instead of just gunning (flanking, being quiet and covering known areas they will attack, etc.)

i picked it back up, it's still hard but i don't die as much as i used to. i've been successful in utilizing a machine gun with a muzzle (thus, making me invisible on the radar whenever i shoot). just have to realize that with anything in life there'll always be nerds who are more willing to perfect their craft and put in more hours to get better. i just don't like that i get thrown in the same game as them - should be beginner levels based on rank so that you're always assured of being matched against like-ability opponents. no reason to throw noobs into the water with sharks circling around.
Great point, HA. I agree with you entirely. They should have an "automatch based on rank" button--that would have made the game so much less frustrating in the earlier stages.

For us Xbox360 users we could just set up a private game where I'm sure most of us are pretty much equally bad ;)
I'm up to lvl 43 and there are some games where I have 6 kills and 20 deaths but most of the games I'm about .500 in kill/death ratio. I love sitting on 6 kills waiting to get that 7th kill to get the heli and then watching the kills rake in!!

I am still loving the 360 version since I got it at Christmas. I have had limited playing time but have still made the most out of the time I have had an dranked up to level 40... I am so happy to have the P90 now. Everyone has been killing me this that think the whole time I have played and it is nice to get my hands on one. As long as I keep the "Stopping Power" perk going I play pretty well with the P90 so far... The excellent rate of fire is good for me since I tend to not be too accurate with my shots.
I am curious what combinations of perks do you guys have alot of success with when you play online?
Anthony

I have 3 profiles I use.
Profile 1:
M16A4 silenced
Claymores
UAV Jammer
Martyrdom
Profile 2:
M16A4 silenced
3 Frags
UAV Jammer
Martyrdom
Profile 3:
50 cal
Claymores
Stopping Power
Iron Lungs
I primarily use the M16 and change the first perk (frags/claymores) depending what level we're playing.
It's cool how the "killcam" shows you all the different perks people use. It's great to see the diversity of perks people use.
I hate using the M16 because it's so cheap. But it seems like half of the players use it, so I just do it to keep up. If they nerf it in a patch, I'll gladly switch back to the MP5 (the 2nd best weapon to use with my "silenced" profile) or the G36C (because of the awesome range).
UAV Jammer is seriously awesome...and I still giggle like a schoolgirl each time I get a claymore kill.
I'd be glad to play a private game with you guys sometime...or maybe we can party up (on 360). I'm usually on most nights sometime between 6 PM-1 AM. Culdcept Saga comes out tomorrow and I'll be playing that one quite a bit.

MrSimp,
You should try the multiplayer. I played Halo 2 every day for almost 2 years and I played Halo 3 every day until COD 4 came out. Since then I've only played it for about an hour. COD has so many more options and choices. No more shotty snipers for me! ;) Seriously, take about 2-3 hours sometime to try it and you'll be hooked. The first few games will be a rough transition though...it's tough playing against all these jerks who have been playing for 100+ hours. I haven't played for 100+ hours...I swear :p
Anthony
02-06-2008, 09:18 AM
if you use a silencer, the UAV Jammers is redundant. both serve to keep you from appearing as a red-dot on the UAV. if you use a silencer you forfeit range on your gun, so you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. if you're gonna use UAV Jammer then take the silencer off.

I will definitely have to try it then. I bought a 56" plasma about 3 days after my 360 in early December and my brother and I have had Halo 3 nights with 4+ people over probably 2 to 3 nights a week since, and my bro hates video games. Gotta love being a bachelor.
As soon as I get home from Thailand later this month I will have the crew check it out. I think its the fact that we've only been playing 360/Halo 3 for less than 2 months that keeps us going so strong.

I thought that UAV Jammer just allowed you to remain invisible when you were not firing and the other team had a UAV active. The silencers allow you to stay stealth when firing your weapon but you still appear on the UAV when the other team has one active?
Am I wrong about that?
I guess I shoulld go back to the M16 sometime for awhile I have pretty much maxed out on my M4, AK47, and M5. I have never used the LMGs before but the rate of fire on the SAW is pretty sweet.
Most of the maps on this game do not allow me to really enjoy sniping. My favorite sniping was back on the old school Ghost Recon on PC.
Anthony
02-06-2008, 02:38 PM
you won't ever appear as a red-dot if you don't shoot your gun. if you only knife people or you use a silencer-enable gun, you won't appear as a red dot. even after a while you'll simply disappear on the UAV if you don't shoot it.
to me, silencer and UAVJammer do the same thing. it's just a matter of it you want to waste a perk on using a Jammer or if you want to sacrifice range on your gun and be able to use all 3 perk slots.
BigDPW
02-06-2008, 02:58 PM
I think you are wrong about showing up when a UAV is active for the other team. Players show up even when they don't shoot there gun if I have a UAV active. Of course I am not aware of who has silencers on and who doesn't when they are on the other team but they are not always shooting when they show up.
When a UAV is not active then opposing players only show up when they are shooting however.

UAV Jammer=will not show on enemy's radar when they have an active UAV Recon
Silenced Weapon=will not show on enemy's radar when you fire your weapon
Put the two together and you will never show up on the enemy's radar, which is why I use the silenced weapon & UAV Jammer together.

Some very cool stuff in the game though. Graphics are great, gameplay is great. I can see how you feel like you have your money's worth if you do MP, but for me I am just glad I had a half off coupon for the rental, because I finished way before it was do back.
