Time for another Mount Rushmore, keeping with the musical theme of late. List your top 4 (this is a key component, listing 4) rock instrumentals.
1. The Ventures - Walk Don't Run
2. Dick Dale - Misirlou
3. Allman Brothers Band - Jessica
4. Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover

Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky (several honorable mentions, but this is prolly the greatest Floyd one)
I seriously thought about this one, but isn't the chic with her incoherent sighs excluding this song?
I wondered that too, cartman, but I couldn't exclude this masterpiece.

IMHO, any voice addition (coherent or not... I'm looking at you, Tequila) precludes a song from instrumental consideration. I'd be happy to hear other viewpoints.

In regards to shkpr's post, I would think arias apply to single instrument performances.

King Crimson - Larks' Tongue in Aspic, Part Two
Cake - Arco Arena
Camel - Super Twister
The Flaming Lips - The Observer
Could easily just put 4 King Crimson songs in here, but figured I'd try and branch out a little...

In regards to shkpr's post, I would think arias apply to single instrument performances.
It's entirely possible that there's a better terminology to be used, but I wanted to make a distinction between songs that just happened to have no lyrics (which we saw a lot of in the early days of rock and roll) and pieces that were part of larger works or in other ways were more "modern".
As far as the human voice issue goes, "Tequila", "Wipeout", and "Rockit", to take three examples, are all considered instrumentals because the human voice is included as, well, an instrument - selected because of the tonal and rhythmic qualities the vocal selection adds to the melody rather than for lingual meaning. I would sooner argue that Fatboy Slim's work is instrumental before I'd accept that "Tequila" isn't (it's the memory of Pee Wee Herman dancing on a table that forever removes that song from the mountain for me).
As an aside, Mount Rushmores on this board just feel more right than polls. :p

Rush - La Villa Strangiato
Faith No More - Woodpeckers from Mars
Yes - Clap (really more bluegrass than rock, I suppose)
Booker T and the MGs - Green Onions
Give me five minutes and I'd probably so change my mind that I'd come up with an entirely new list - except for Strangiato. Gawd but that song rocks.

For Satriana, I'd prefer Summer Song.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned ELO's Fire on High.

Does the yodeling in Focus "Hocus Pocus" eliminate it?
