I'm typing this from a hotel room. I'm not sure if you guys have heard about the windstorms here in the puget sound, but there's been gusts of up 90 mph, and unfortunately for us, one of those gusts knocked down four trees, 3of which crushed our roof, and one which tore down the powerlines in the front yard.
There's a ton of damage, and I have no idea how long it'll be before the power is on, and the roof is fixed. This really, really sucks.

Fuck. Sorry to hear that, Schmidty.
Is your insurance company at least paying for your hotel room?

No, but I'm lucky enough to be an employee of the hotel (night manager), so I won't have to pay much, if anything for the room.

On the bright side, hopefully this takes a lot of time off your commute for a while..
(I know, silverlining in a huge fucking cloud, but.. take what you can get)

Damn. I am sorry to hear that, Schmidty. It sounds like everyone's ok, which is good, but I'm really sorry about your house.
Good luck and I wish you the best.

Our franchises have been dealing with the results of this all day. It sounds like a horrible storm. All the best sir.

Best wishes, Schmidty - that's one of my worst nightmares, being raped by nature like that.

Thanks guys (and lady).
At this point, it's looking like anywhere between 2 and 7 days before our place is habitable. I'll find out for sure tomorrow morning. The things I'm most worried about is our animals and the fact that I'm not there to guard my stuff from people who might try to take advantage of the fact that it's obvious that we aren't home.

Holy crap....I'm soooo sorry to hear about that, man.
One piece of advice I can offer is this - as soon as you can, and as **safely** as you can, go back to your house and grab as many valuables and sentimental items as you can. Looters are everywhere and love the opportunity to sneak into a destroyed house and grab what they can.
And let us know if there is *anything* that we can do to help you work things out.
