I know that Cheap Ass Gamer already has a large sticky thread with a lot of the great tech deals for Black Friday. Anyone else know of any other websites where info about Black Friday deals can be found?

I'd like an HD-DVD player, but I'm not sure who will win the HD-DVD vs. BluRay fight and don't want to commit $300+ bucks to a potential loser.

Sharper Image let slip a $100 off TomTom GPS. Which includes the new TomTom ONE 3rd Edition, which is regularly $250 but only $150 with this deal. Amazon.com and SharperImage.com had this price up on Wednesday, but yanked it yesterday. But I had fortunately called Wednesday while they accidentally had this up, and my local Sharper Image honored the price when I went to pick it up yesterday.
So a big thumbs up to Sharper Image for honoring the price early, and another big thumbs up for a HUGE deal on a VERY solid GPS, and a third big thumbs up for all this going down right before I have two long driving trips, including one where I'm going to be driving all over a city I've never been to.

My wife has been humoring me some on it, but when it said "turn left in 500 yards, then remain in the right lane" to prep for the following turn when we tested it on the way to work this morning, even she said "Okay, THAT's cool." We both hate guessing wether it's a left or right exit on the interstate when driving through a city.

We're running the HDA-3 w/ 2 free HDDVD's(300 and Bourne Something) for 189.99 at sears.
999.99 basic 46" 720 Sharp
899.99 LG 37" LCD and 42" Plasma.
Lots of generic TV's in the 8-900 range.
42" 1080p plasma from panasonic for as low as 1049.99(on sears card w/ 150 off instant thru 11/17) is probably the best deal out there, if you don't need financing.

The various fanboy sites have been organizing support for the votes. I'm not surprised in the least. Also, the HD-DVD is cheaper in the offer. Most people will take cheap anytime. The sales numbers for the movie units (which is where the profits are made) continue to trend at a 2:1 ratio in favor of Blu-ray.

No the HD-DVD is not cheaper. They are both $149. The HD-DVD is a more expensive item, but that doesn't not always make it the better option, people will choose the item they want more.

That's a cool site - I just picked up a Desktop that I've needed forever from a coupon there:
Dell Dimension 511
24" widescreen LCD monitor included
AMD 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+
128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS
250 Gig Hard Drive
2 GB Memory (I upgraded here a little above the deal price)
Total, $825 including taxes, free shipping, plus a $100 Dell gift card. I'm fired up - I've never had a big monitor before, and have been playing CIV 4 on a laptop for months.
I'm downright giddy - this will be an upgrade for me from 512 MB Memory, 40 GB Hard Drive, 14-inch laptop screen.

So on big-ticket items (specifically HDTVs) is Black Friday weekend the absolute best time to pick one up or will there also be some good deals after Christmas? Or is "Cyber Monday" the way to go in most cases?

Two ideas for Black Friday:
1) If you can, get there a little before midnight the night before. Why? Because someone else will be there at midnight, if not sooner. That said, then there's all sorts of logistical issues, particularly with bathrooms unless you have more than 1 person.
2) Like in conversations about CAG and video game sales, your best bet is to go to the store that isn't as popular. Don't go to the shiny new store near the new mega mall, go to the old one on the not quite as nice side of town (tho this conflicts with the "get there at midnight" idea). Everyone wants to go to the new one and they forget about the less popular one.

Are you looking for a point and shoot, or a digital SLR? The bfads site mentioned earlier in the thread shows that Circuit City is currently selling a Samsung 10 megapixel point and shoot for $160 with a free printer.

It absolutely depends. Last year, I had the easiest time on Black Friday. I went up to the North Georgia Outlets at about 7 AM. Every store was open at midnight (and were apparently CRAZY at the time). By 7, there was NO ONE there. All the midnight shoppers were done and the rest of the people weren't going to show up until late morning/early afternoon.
It was actually the least crowded outlet shopping I've ever done... at least until like 10 AM.
I'm absolutely going to do the same thing this year.

+1, seriously: If they were giving away computers and wide screen tvs or even Hollywood starlets, it still wouldn't be worth it to me.
I went for a few years. But now I just go to work on black friday, since its easy and there's never anything to do and I can leave early anyway.

I'm really torn. I absolutely don't want to go out...but the TV I've been stalking is on sale. $1299 at Circuit City. Best deal on the internet, including shipping, is $1770 from diggs dot com.
On the one hand, I hate shopping, I hate going out, I hate standing in lines. I hate the thought of going & not getting it.
On the other hand, I don't make $100 an hour, so standing in line for 5 hours to save the $470 is extremely intriguing to me.
Does it usually follow a pattern that the on sale TV's are the ones on the verge of sloughing off the technological curve and will be cheap in January anyway? I don't get that feeling from this model, but hell, this is my first foray into the LCD flat screen revolution.
Assuming this purchase will be made in the next 2 months, is there anything else I should consider? (this is the part when you tell me how to run my life. . .)

Is the TV currently available at your local store? If it is, you might want to ask someone there about there Price matching policy?
If it is not available then it might be one of those items that the store does not now, or will never carry after Friday. You see a lot of door buster sales on brands you have never heard of and items that the store does not ever carry. Home Depot and Lowes will both have Door buster TVs sales this year on Black Friday, but if you go back to the same store in January you will see that they do not even carry TVs. This kind of suck if you just want to exchange a defective unit, for a working one.

Which TV? If it's the sharp 46", make sure it's not the 46d62 instead of the newer 64 series.
Most of the BF sales are tv's that are either one shots, or stuff that'll be replaced in the spring.

You can get a very good 1080p Sharp 46" on Amazon right now for $1500. That's only a couple hundred more than the "black friday deals" and there is no sales tax to make up most of that. If I wanted a new TV, I would buy this one online and avoid the Friday hassle:

It is the step up, it is ths Sharp 46" Aquous the lcd64u model. There are 2 sharps on sale, the entry Aquous sharp that I'm not looking at, and the 64u, which is currently the mid-range Aquous. The difference between the lcd64u at $1300 and online is nearly $500.

They definitely carry it, it was their featured "Black Friday" GPS deal (on sale for about $125). I was at staples a few minutes after it opened this morning and they were long gone.
Then I went to Walmart, and they were well stocked with everything they had advertised, and I barely had to wait at line at checkout.
I'm sure this varies my location and store to some extent, but I find it incredibly irritating when a store advertises a "great deal" that maybe 3 or 4 people per store actually take advtangage of. So in my limited Black Friday experiences, thumbs up for Walmart, thumbs way down for Staples and Best Buy.

Isn't the Monday after Thanksgiving big for online deals? I want to get a new laptop, this one sucks, but I'm not going out today.
I take that one step further and typically wait until the day after Christmas to buy online. My wife and I load up on gift certificates (of all kinds) so we have something to open but we can a much greater bang for the bucks on the day after.

So looking around at the 360..
It looks like the only deals really are to get a free guitar hero II pack or to get a free additional wireless controller.
The other ones that say 2 free games, that's just the bundle that everyone has.
Does anyone think any other/better deals will come up between now and christmas?
I doubt it although Circuit City does seem to offer a free wireless controller with a purchase of a Xbox 360 every 2-3 months so Circuit City might offer that deal again before Christmas. At both of the Best Buys I went to, the Xbox 360 being bundled with the Guitar Hero II is the older model that doesn't have the new motherboard, HDMI output, or 65-nm CPU.

I bet you it is that piece of crap discount model.
If it is the 82 model that is a unbelievable buy.
If it is the 64 model that is a great buy.
If it is the 62 model that is a good buy.
If it is the 43 model that is a terrible buy. RUN AWAY
It been known for 2 weeks what models are are on sale. It takes a whole of like 30 seconds to search on the web and find out.
Me and the gf (and her cousins visiting from california) camped out at CC, got there at 2am and managed to get the last 42" Sharp voucher left. Stood in line again for an hour inside the store, paid, went out back and spent 2 minutes waiting for them to load it into the vehicle. We somehow managed to wedge it into my Civic and we drove back from Rochester to Syracuse this morning (since we both had to work this afternoon).
We will be setting it up tonight, can't wait :D Very tired but very happy with the purchase.

We got to Best Buy this morning at 4:30. We were in the store less than 10 minutes after the campers. We were out of Best Buy by 6 am and went next door to Target. We were in the store by 6:10 as well. IMHO, unless you're gonna save some big bucks by getting multiple big ticket items, it's not worth it to camp out.

I'm buzzing about online and don't see deals that really make me jump at them. I'm wondering if the in store deals are much better than the online, but there is no way I'm going to do the black friday shopping frenzy.

Personally, that's a big key for me, tho. I'm not sure it's worth getting up at 4:30am, if I'm just going to get small stuff.

I asked this question in the other thread, but how do I tell if it is the new chipset, etc? Just if it has HD output available (even though it's sold seperately)?

Although it looks like the best chance of getting a falcon is to get one that has a 175W power supply.

How do I know what power supply it has at the store?

Went the outlets at like 7:30 again, and spent like crazy. Not many people there in the morning at all. But as it approached noon it got crazy. My friend needed to go to Coach to get a gift, but there was a LINE OUT OF THE DOOR at 12:30 PM just to get in the store (they didn't want to violate the fire code, I guess). But plenty of great clothes on sale (ie, 2 Lucky Brand jeans for $75 - regular price were $100 each), a Le Crueset skillet, and fun other stuff.

did anyone go by a Gamestop? were they madhouses? Theyre having a special trade-in thing where you get 30% more in value and was thinking of rounding up all of my old dust collectors but I hate the crowds.

Wal-Mart incompetance plus 6 A.M. Black Friday confusion got us a bit of a deal on a flat screen monitor I guess. They had a 20" Acer monitor advertised for $160 or so. There was 1 there and we grabbed it. The wife went to checkout while I distracted the kid (so she wouldn't see the toys she got). She tells me in the car how the monitor was ringing up at $230 and she had to talk through 3 people before they would honor the add. SHe was of course not happy.
We stopped by another Wal-Mart later on and saw a bunch of the monitors there. But they are priced $230. We ended up finding out it was a cheaper 20" Acer monitor that was supposed to be on sale, and the wife talked her way into getting the more expensive one for the sale price.
Trying to find info online though, I can't really see much difference between the two models. The one we got though is listed as being about $250 some places online, so we got a good $90 off the online prices and $70 off from the Wal-Mart price.

fwiw,
pc2-5300 ddr2 for laptops...
1gb for $29 and a $15 mail-in rebate at circuit city.
I managed to snag a Sony Home Theater system today at Circuit City. We were looking for a decent 2.1 system (have space limitations) and they had the Sony DAV-X1 system on sale for $329.99. That was $130 less than Walmart and $170 less than American TV. I was very happy that they had one in stock.

Mmm 42" goodness for football! We haven't gotten the HD going yet since we need to swap our TW box for a HD box but the tv is sweet. I couldn't imagine anything bigger fitting in our living room.

A light Black Friday for me. Got up and hit Circuit City just as the doors were opening at 5AM. Got one of the last Super Mario Galaxy's, which were on sale for $35. Picked up several DVD's for $3, including History of Violence, The Sure Thing, and Galaxy Quest. Also picked up some season sets of The West Wing, which were only $15 each. Headed to Staples and got a Wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo for $25 (normally $85). Then went to Target where I got The Boondocks DVD set for $20 and a pair of jeans for $7. Last year I did the whole camping out thing to sell Wii/PS3/Toys on ebay, but this was much more fun.
