One the biggest events in the world in the last few months was the victory of Nicolas Sarkozy and his center-right government. Since taking office in mid-May, he's created a pretty diverse cabinet and seemed focused on crafting France's foreign policy with his travel.

He also, with his government, revoked inheritance taxes for those expect the wealthiest as well as changes when it is taxed. Also passed was a reduction cap on all taxes (including social secruity, property, local, wealth, ect.) to 50% from 60%. A big tax is the 35-hour week work. All overtime income (35 hours) is tax-free.

Now, France is in a big fight with the transport workers on strike. Seems like the big challenge.

Anybody been following?

I've been following, I get a good vibe from Sarkozy, but I don't really have a good feel for what direction France is going in.

I also have a good vibe and will be following, if nothing else but to see how such an entrenched work and socioeconomic can (and should) be changed.
