I see this happen fairly often (which is not to say all the time but enough to notice), and I realize there is a chance of "getting diced".
In the most recent example in the 2020 season of my Vikings dynasty. We were playing the Falcons who have a tremendous front 4 and Line backers rated high against the run. However their secondary was very weak. So I wanted to attack their secondary using 10-20 yard passes.
For 1st down I bumped my rushing down to 30 (which is as low as I will go in a normal situation); Short passes to 25; and long passes to 45. I also have my game situations screen set where it does not heavily alter my base offense in close games inside my own 20.
I'll be damned if we did not end up running on 65% of the first down situations in the first 3 quarters. Also we ran heavy in the run in all situations; I mean we really tried to inexplicably pound the ball.
So when this happens... is it just the dice or are there other possible extenuating circumstances, which cause the gameplan to be altered from the start?
