Okay, have been thinking about this a bit... we'll see how it works. This might be a renewable contest with altered parameters if it turns out to be interesting. Anyway, here's our first try.
THE CONTEST
Create a wordsearch, where your score will be based on the cumulative "word poker" scores of the words you imbed in the wordsearch.
RULES
Wordsearch is to be exactly 8 x 8 letters
Only your two highest-scoring words reading in each of the 8 possible "directions" count
No more than one letter may be shared between two scoring words
Words should be non-capitalized, not requiring puncutation or other non-letter characters
SCORING
For each word, score the highest category that applies:
2 points for a PAIR (two of the same letter anywhere in the word, as in BULB)
4 points for TWO PAIR (two letters each appearing twice, as in DEED)
6 points for THREE OF A KIND (three of the same letter, as in MISSES)
8 points for a STRAIGHT (three consecutive letters appearing in order, as in FIRST)
10 points for a FULL HOUSE (threesome and a pair, as in DRESSES)
12 points for FOUR OF A KIND (four of the same letter, as in STRESSES)
15 points for FIVE OF A KIND (five of the same letter, good luck with that)
Give it a shot, if this is your cup of tea.
