Can we please do something about the unrealistic attendance? It is beyond rediculus and not even close to accurate and it takes away from a great game, I have bought every version and its been like this everytime and almost all nfl teams now days sell out every game or are very close, I had the Colts go 15-1 and only average 44000 per game and didn't even sell out the playoff game, why is this such a problem in this game? Its the only complaint I have

I agree - I think attendance has been an afterthought in the game system for a long, long time. Fortunately, despite it's impact on coach/scouting spending, it's pretty low there on the ladder (as evidenced by how long it's been ignored).
Edit: I think my comment has been misunderstood. When I said "low on the ladder" I meant because it SHOULD Be. Things that FOF does right, like the game engine and the various other elements of the game are much more important than attendance figures.

you would think that would be an easy issue to fix, it affects revenue for your team when you can't get that money from the tickets that nfl teams usually sell...

Well I guess we have our answer since were not going to get any replies to this question from the people in charge of this game..

If you have a problem with the game, you need to contact Jim at his website. This is NOT the official website of Solecismic Software.
support AT solecismic.com is the email to make your complaint.

Well-documented long-time issue. *shurg*

A little off topic but this seems like an okay thread to post it in, somehow.
I think it would be cool to implement something along the lines of this:
When selecting a team for the SP career...an option to select a "no team." or some such. (for people who like to "watch" or whatever.)
I wonder how hard it would be to stick something like that in.

P.S. Maybe I'll suggest that to Jim through that e-mail address above.

The *shurg* is interesting here. Is it saying "do your homework before making a request (n00b)"? Or is it implying we've given up hope on that one, contacting support isn't going to make Solecismic any more aware of this than they already are?

Closer to the latter than the former, but that's not quite it, either. No, I haven't given up hope. But yes, contacting support shouldn't make Solecismic any more aware of this than they already have been made aware.

A new mentioning of an old issue could be that one "oh yeah, I forgot about that" moment to get it fixed.

If I was a mod I would do things like edit this thread title so that it reads:

I like it the way it is. I think it is this way to provide a challenge and make it so you have to pay attention to the financial aspect.
IF you are handing out bonuses through renegotiations every year, then you will lose money. When you lose money you cannot afford to sign the top grade talent in coaches and scouts. With guaranteed sell outs, you would rarely lose money.
I think having the attendance be tied to long term team performance, helps keep down some potential loop holing.
So despite being unrealistic, I think it helps preserve game integrity on some level.

Mods aren't grammer police. They are around to keep things generally in order and to answer questions.

Do we have a mod here that can help with spelling "grammar"?

80 years into a SP career, and 23 teams have less than 50k fans show up for a game. I tell myself that football just doesn't interest those in the 2080's as much.

Noob comment, but maybe attendance is intentionally left with some slack so that team performance, ticket prices, and stadium renovations have a bit of room to work on the numbers as intended?
I don't know about that. In one of my MP leagues, we have a new stadium, have been to the playoffs for the past 4 years, and still can't crack 20,000 home attendance. It's in the bottom 3rd of the league in ticket prices.... there has got to be more to it than that.

Another factor in attendance is popular players.

I am in the middle of my fourth season in a SP league.
I sold 67,000 season tickets and am averaging 69,000 for three home games to date for this season.
My first three years: 13-2-1...14-2...13-3.
I lost in the Super Bowl last season...lost in the Conference semi's the first two years.
Two other teams are averaging in the low 60,000 this season also. 4 other teams averaging in the low/mid 50,000.
Another factor in attendance is popular players.
Team: Arizona Cardinals
Attendance: 32,000 (last in league)
50.7% capacity
Trend: +5%
2018: 2-2 (current season)
2017: 11-5 (WC)
2016: 13-3 (won division)(teams first winning season ever, league started in 2003)
2015: 6-10
Players with 50 or > popularity
Vince Marshall QB 100
Herman Nager WR 100
Kyle Porter LT 91
Dean Ellis RB 89
Bryan Caton RG 72
Jumbo Koehke TE 62
Curtis Newman K 50
2017 attendance: 32,000
2018 attendance: 25,800

so following along these lines i read in the vNFL one guy had talked about hometown players. is it a function of popularity or is it a separate factor.
in other words my team in in Phoenix so should i be looking at players from ASU/Arizona? or should i be looking at their actual hometowns?

I keep laughing that in my MP league, I'm coaching Denver. Generally a successful franchise. In my two years as GM, we've gone 12-4, won the division title, but lost the div. playoffs to eventual Super Bowl champ. In the 2nd season, I'm 10-3, already locked up the div champ and contending to be the number 1 seed in the AFC for the 2nd year in a row.
Denver never sells out. Attendence isn't bad. Its actually pretty close to selling out, with only a few thousand seats left.
But, Denver is a Broncos crazy town that sells out when the Broncos go 8-8. On a run when they are either the number 1 seed or contending for it, you wouldn't be able to steal a Broncos ticket. So to me its always funny to look at the box score and see they didn't sell out again.
At least with the sal cap it doesn't have a direct impact on the game. Some effect on team profitability, but at least its not a case where I can't sign some free agent because I can't get Denver fans to come sell out Mile High for a winning team.

I think it's a minor issue for just about everything, except a few weeks ago I tried to give myself a SP challenge of making sure I broke even or stayed profitable. I thought that might incentive me to go after every win, hold onto popular players, etc., whereas before in SP I'd play reserves after clinching and never cared about popularity.
Then I saw that you really can't influence attendance much. Win the first couple of games and your attendance rises a couple hundred each game and then maxes out somewhere well below capacity. Have a good season and you'll sell a few more season tickets for the next year. I'm sure price of tickets has an impact too. But in general, the only thing that really moves the revenue side of the bottom line is...
home playoff games

P.S. I played one career as an expansion franchise. It made about $30MM the first year, lost about the second year and then settled into break even / mild profit every year. Then I played one career as St Louis (2009, with the update patch) did the usual +30MM then -30MM thing but I could never sustain profitability after that. Even though I was very reasonable about FA. I won the Super Bowl in year 4 and only lost $7MM. Ha.
