With a little help my friends, the Beatles will win. They did not deserve it over Led Zeppelin though. In my life, the Beatles would have been sent to the Strawberry Fields Forever 2 rounds ago. Queen won't rock us another week, but who wants to live forever? It's a given now that the Beatles will win so let it be.

I'll never understand why the Beatles are so popular.

*prepares for incredulous responses*Agreed. Maybe it's because I wasn't around for Beatle-mania, but I just can't understand how people think they rock more than Led Zeppelin.

Hm. I think the Beatles have a better, long-term set of songs; and on any given day would prefer a Beatles CD to a Queen CD; but I'd greatly prefer Queen in concert.

Ditto.
I can't see the Beatles putting on anywhere near the show Queen would.

Wow, I just looked at the results so far. Are people voting Beatles just because they're the Beatles?
I expected Queen to win this one easily.

People are voting for the Beatles because there's only about one Queen song that would be among the Beatles' Top 25 if the Beatles had done it.
And I'm saying that as someone who likes Queen.

I'm 100% serious. No hyperbole. Queen's songwriting skills were not anything close to those of the Beatles.

Just like how Nirvana beat AC/DC just because they're Nirvana?
Queen's going down.
As much as Queen concerts might be fun, a Beatles concert at their prime would kick ass.

Oh yeah, I'll tell you something
I think you'll understand
When I'll say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
Oh please, say to me
You'll let me be your man
And please, say to me
You'll let me hold your hand
I'll let me hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
And when I touch you I feel happy
Inside
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide
Yeah, you've got that something
I think you'll understand
When I'll say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
And when I touch you I feel happy
Inside
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide
Yeah, you've got that something

When I'll feel that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
.
Granted, many of Queen's lyrics are equally pedestrian, trite, or torturously contrived. But at their best, they were amazing. Less so than the Beatles, I'd agree. I just disagree that the gap is so immense.

This is truly it right here. While the Beatles were musically superior to Queen without a doubt (in my mind), Queen would be miles beyond them in concert, I think. Half of the songs they recorded the Beatles didn't ever play live. Ever.

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" isn't one the 25 best Beatles songs.
And printed completely out of context 40 years later on a football text sim message board makes the lyrics seem beyond ridiculous.
But, as one of their earliest efforts, the song was perfect for the bubble gum ditties that were so popular at the time. And the song resulted in mobs of teenaged girls creaming in their shorts and passing out, so I guess it really hit the mark it was targeting.

Song writing does not just equal lyrics.
Musically both bands were outstanding at times, and lyrically both were pretty awful at times too.
The advantage the Beatles have is that when they evolved from the "I wanna hold your hand" phase they were pretty much originators, where as it could be argued that there were a number of bands doing what Queen was doing at and just before their time, just that none of the other bands came close to getting the sound as accessable as Queen did.
But the point of the tournament is who you'd want to see live, and though I'm sure Queen would put on one hell of a show, I'd just love to see the Beatles in their prime - though hopefully without the millions of screaming girls all around me.

Isn't that part of the appeal? You'd get to hear mega hits live that never have been played live before. I can't be the only one who wants to hear Revolution and Come Together, among many others, live.

As awesome as Queen was at Live Aid, it would have been even more awesome if the 3 surviving Beatles at the time would have played.

The thing about Queen at Live Aid was that they were considered washed-up or at least past their prime. The awesomeness of Live Aid was that it resurrected one of the greatest bands and gave birth (internationally super stardom speaking) to one of the greatest bands of all time (U2).
