This is by far the toughest decision I could possibly have in this entire tournament. I went with the Doors here, but whoever wins this will get my vote in the finals.

Let's hope so Dodger Chick... let's hope so. I'm gonna have the roadhouse blues if Guns n Roses loses this one. They're knockin on heaven's door, but even if they break on through to the otherside of this round, they will lose to the Beatles in the finals. Live and let die...

You're ignorance is showing again. They may have been a bunch of low lifes in general, but they had talent. hacks indeed.

I used to listen to GNR when I was 12 or 13 but anymore (now im 20 :) ) I can't really listen to them. With that being said I do think they would put on a great live show. I would pay to see them. Although, I don't think they deserve to be in the finals. There are plenty of other bands I would rather see live. This board feels otherwise. It all depends upon where the polls are being taken. If we were to post this on another forum, I am sure the results while not drastically different would definitely be quite different. I disagreed with a lot of the results, but hell, this was a good idea for a tournament, and it has been fun.

This is crazy, I voted against GNR for 3 straight rounds, only to now finding myself voting for them. What does that say about the Doors competition?

It was nothing more than a sarcastic comment... c'mon jasLove... a lack of smilies doesn't mean it's a serious comment, k? ;)

I had never understood the appeal of The Doors. I wouldn't put them in the category of the most overrated band of all time (Rolling Stones) but put them in a category of "I'm cool, you're not because you don't like The Doors".

While I can relate to GnR being a hack band (but a good one at that and a great concert band, when Axl is on), I can clearly see how they got here. Nirvana is probably runner up to the Stones in most overrated band of all time.

To appreciate The Doors, you have to look at everything that came before them. The Beatles were rock, they were as hard as it got, and the Morrison, Manzarek and co. just blew the friggin doors off (no pun intended). No one before had ever come close to their sound. And it holds up today.
Then again, I must admit, since I got sober I only put The Doors at about an 8 wheen high they were a constant 12.

I agree 100%.
And I think it sucks. Id vote for either of these over thee other semi crwod. The Beatles vs Queen blach....

Give me a break, they were a counterculture band, just like Airplane.

dola,
I haven't listened to The Doors in awhile and as a result of this poll I went back and listened to them. Going through my winamp playlist these are all songs that I feel represent The Doors. And hearing these live? Damn, that would be fantastic.
Break on Through
Hyacinth House
L.A. Woman
Land Ho!
Light My Fire
Love Her Madly
Love Me Two Times
Maggie M'Gill
Peace Frog
People Are Strange
Queen of the Highway
Riders on the Storm
Roadhouse Blues
The End

Not really. When a band's big albums and hits only came from the 67-70 period, and had the sound that fit that niche, then they were labeled as thus. Beatles had a counterculture period, as did the Stones and many others but they were many other things as well, including revolutionary. IF I recall, bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zep (I forgot their first name) were starting to do stuff in this period that blew away a band like the Doors and their catchy sound that plays nice in a coffeehouse in Westwood.

Ok they were a counterculture band
Much like Nirvana was a grunge band, Pearl Jam was an alternative band, and Metallica was Metal,
I guess my point was the entire movement was an attempt to copy their sound, and no one did.
IMHO of course.

So, of all the rock bands in the history of the world that one could see live, Queen and GNR rank among the very upper echelon??
I have a certain amount of respect for both bands, but I'm surprised that more people aren't surprised by this . . . .

Right, I know, as you got older you came to appreciate them more and more, and it's at the point where it seems ridiculous for them to even be in this thing because it's so unfair to the other bands. We're all in the same boat. I'm sure if Kodos had a chance to do it over again he'd leave them out so that there would be some suspense over who would win, but we're stuck with the way it is.

And that's not even bringing Billy Joel into consideration.

That's the inherent fallacy of a playoffs, as some have been arguing regarding college football. GnR got here because of who they had to 'play', not because they were in the upper echelon. It's like a lower seed playing higher ranked teams that didn't match up well or were hurt.

Good point. They beat the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, The Doors and Elvis Presely. Other than that, though, they really haven't faced anyone tough.

I was only counting the Stones and Nirvana, which even Billy Joel should beat. Elvis has been so imitated that it's hard to think about him legitimately.
ps. I have not followed this contest until this round so I don't know what had been said earlier.
