Don't get me wrong, I love FOF, but when will there be another game like Front Page Sports Football Pro?

Being able to meet your opponents live online for the game, designing your own plays, calling your plays, watching them transpire, etc...

With all the advancements since 98' I can't believe there hasn't been a game like this released for the pc.... There has got to be a huge demand for it!

Is FOF the dominate leader in anything close?

Maximum Football is what you're looking for, methinks

Interesting... checking their site now... does it have online leagues where you play h2h against your opponent, calling plays and you email the commish the files?

Before you get too excited about Maximum Football, read this thread, at least twice:

You would think by now, wouldn't you. Unfortunately the game you describe, which IS the ideal concept for a football simulation also falls borderline under niche game. Which connotes smaller market sales, less development resources, and investment dollars. The masses ($$) want to be on the field with joystick in hand. :(

geeze, I just want to control my roster, design and call plays and let the players execute them (like a real freakin coach).... is that too much to ask?

fbpro-online.com has the games for download (not sure how legal it is but the site has been there for a while)

It also has links to various "leagues" you can join Also if you seach around on google and whatnot, you can find some pretty darned active FBPro leagues.

Good luck

::edit::

I also bought Maximum Football, I wasn't overly impressed, but I was happy to purchase it hoping that one day there will be some (PC based) competition for Madden. (who I don't think will port games to PC for much longer)

The PC has so many awesome capabilities for a decent football game (with graphics) and I really wish there was a market. Unfortunately big time developers don't want to make a game that they don't think will sell millions of copies, nor are they willing to try anything groundbreaking or new anymore. It's sad really...I miss the good old days (golden age) of video games.

Thanks for the link and the info. I shall try FBPro again...

I just have a hard time believing there wouldn't be much of a demand for a game like this that is done well...

i would think Maximum Football is the closest to what you're looking for. at least it's still supported and new versions (sporadically) will come out. i guess it's one of those things where the more people support it, the more likely it is for better/future versions to be released.

What about Madden 08' for the PC? Does it not have all these features?

In Madden 08 on PC I design my own plays, coach (not "play") my team's games, and every now and then meet people online to play as well.

The PC version has its problems, but it's still the best version out there by far IMO, and does pretty much everything you are asking for.

There are a lot of online leagues though correct? The only thing you can't do is call you custom plays online vs an opponent?

madden has a few plays that ALWAYS work and even in coach mode you play in leagues where some coaches call the same play at least once on 1st, 2nd or 3rd down... AI busters....
This is why I left online madden for the pc

I started participating in an online sim-game that is currently in beta. My initial observations are that it has some balance issues but the designers are experienced and seem to be dedicated to getting it done right. The playbook is very deep and engrossing. You might want to take a look.

That's from one of the simulatedsports.com guys? I may have to keep an eye out on it, I had a lot of fun with their college basketball game for quite a while (including writing a viewer for it).

Jim says he's going to add playbooks in the next iteration. For me, being in Europe, I find FOF close to ideal, since it would be impossible to match schedules with guys in the States to play head to head. When the technology reaches the point where you can play 11 on 11 in a real simulated game, then I'll start staying up late. Until then, it's FOF and trust in Jim that we'll get some kind of graphics in the near future.
