I have an old X-Box wireless adaptor...will it work with a 360? My future brother in law does not have one and I was thinking it might make a nice "extra" Christmas gift.

No it will not. Microsoft wants you to spend another $100 on a wireless adapter for the 360.

Are you sure about that? I could swear mine worked, but I could be totally wrong.

I stand corrected. According to Q & A from Xbox 360 FAQs, it will

6. I know the new Wi-Fi adapter for the Xbox 360 is USB based, but will we be able to use the current Xbox wireless network adapter with the new Xbox 360?

Yes, you’ll be able to use any Ethernet-based wireless bridge (aka wireless adapter) with the Xbox 360. Just plug it into the Xbox 360 Ethernet port and installation will be the same as with the Xbox or any other console. The reason why Microsoft made the new adapter USB-based is because they wanted to eliminate an external power source for this adapter; other than that, it is identical to other wireless bridges

I made the switch to the 360 and could have sworn my original adapter wouldn't work. Apparently that isn't the case.

My old one worked when I got my 360.

I then had the red rings of death and moved.

When I had the 360 fixed, the old adapter no longer worked with it. I'm not sure if this is because of the 360 or because of the new network I am on.

I think the old adapter is 8011a/b. If you're running g/n you might want to invest in the 360 adapter.
