View Full Version : My Cat Killed my 360

Since I've been a vocal proponent of the 360 and have always said I've never had any problems with it, I feel compelled to share my first negative experience. My 360 has been much louder the last few weeks than normal, so I was afraid it was starting to have some problems. This afternoon while I was playing a really good game of NFL 2k5, my cat decided to jump on the 360. He likes warm places and I'm surprised he's only done this once before. Right after he did it, I saw the rings of red and the game shut down. I turned it off and then turned it back on and it will turn on. However, even after a 2 hour break, it won't recognize the controllers. It isn't producing any sound and it won't recognize the memory cards. I'm guessing the cat gave it a static shock. I can't imagine that being on it for a second would be enough to make it overheat. Shrug. In any case, I'm going to upgrade to one of the newer ones now and see if any of my friends want my old one to try to get it fixed since it isn't causing the 3 red rings and wouldn't be covered by that policy.

Eye for an eye is only appropriate.
Just kidding...sorry to hear.

It would have been pretty funny if the 360 had given the cat a static shock.

One of my cats chewed through the cord to one of the controllers on my regular X-Box. I love the bastard, but he chews on just about anything he can get his mouth on...

As bad as I feel for EF27, I am LOL at this.
Man, that really sucks. I was afraid you were going to have a story about cat hair or something, as I am terrible about vacuuming regularly espicially in the area of the room with all the cords. Man, between getting fired at Princeton and this, it has been a shitty console gaming weekend, I feel for ya :(

I think you should drop off your cat at the local Chinese restaurant.

Thanks guys. Just picked up and set up a new 360 with the HDMI. I'm surprised at how much more quiet it is. I'm pretty sure the old one was never this quiet even when it was new. Fortunately, the old HD works so I didn't lose any of my game saves (which I'm now backing up to a memory card.)

I think it is only a matter of time before mine croaks. I've had the RROD probably half a dozen times over the past year. The 360 always works again if I turn it off and then restart, but I'm thinking this can't be a good sign in general. Especially since my 360 only sees limited use. If I played every day, it would probably have croaked already. My father-in-law said it was losing contact with the controller the other day too, although he is pretty incompetent with electronics and I haven't experienced the loss of contact myself.
Part of me thinks I should trade it in to get what I can for it, and then spring for one with HDMI.
