There's none better, IMO. It's one of the ones most often mentioned as a quality fast food place when we occasionally hit that subject here. :)

I was vactioning in Arizona and got my first taste of In-n-Out burgers. There great stuff and I like how you can see inside and see how they make the food. But I don't expect they will be making one out here in the Chicago area anytime soo. :( They would make a killing out here.

I read this and didn't have a clue what was going on. My first thought was "This is odd. This board doesn't usually discuss things like this in such detail."
Then I continued reading the thread and felt like a complete moron. How was I supposed to know that this was a food thread?
FWIW, these burgers sound awesome.

Protein style = no bun
Animal style = fried with mustard, topped with grilled onions, extra pickes, and an extra sauce/spread
There's a well developed lexicon, but this is all I need. The A/S is outstanding.

At the end of the day, my vote has to go to Five Guys over In-n-Out b/c of their fries.
The perfect burger joint would, of course, combine the best of both places.
But, really, you're a winner anytime you eat at either place.

I have In-N-Out regularly. In fact, I had some last night. I always go with the Ketchup/Mustard over the spread though. Saves something like 100 calories, which I can use on much more tasty things like a scoop of ice cream after.

A Five Guys just opened up near my work a couple months ago, and me and my bro went to try it. I would agree with the comments made that the burger was solid, but not In-N-Out great, IMO (it reminded me of Fuddruckers, which is not a bad thing). I did really like the fries, but I wasn't floored by them. They are better than In-N-Out's but I like In-N-Out's fries, too.
For some reason, Five Guys gave us a whole shitload of fries, and that was with us getting two of the smaller size fries. :shurg:
Five Guys is awesome.
I wish we had In N Out in Miami but alas that will never happen.

5 Guys ALWAYS gives a shitload of fries. They fill up the cup and then give you another full scoop in the bag. 1 smaller-size fry is enough for 2 hungry people in my experience.

Geographically, it seems like Idaho is In-And-Out Burger's greatest omission.
The last few times I've been to vegas though, the crowd and the wait has kind of killed the enjoyment. The burgers are good, but not "wait 45 minutes and then sit 2 inches from some fat guy" kind of good. I know that one In-and-out-burger on Dean Martin Dr near the strip is probably the exception in that regard though.

According to my In N' Out locator thingamajigee on the In-N-Out site, there are some 15 or more stores in the Vegas area. I highly recommend just heading off strip. ;)

Five Guys is good, very rewarding if you load up your toppings right. I love the mass ammounts of fries you get and have gone so far as to have Mrs. Dutch run to the store to snag a couple of orders of them to go with whatever I'm grilling in the backyard. Good stuff!

They really did. The 3 or so that were open here in the Dayton area fell off so bad, that they ended up closing. You could just tell that the quality was declining the last couple of times we went, that they were trying to cut corners to save money, and the whole experience suffered.

I keep saying when I take my brother that one of these times we should try the Cajun fries, and we keep forgetting to.
After all this talk yesterday I was at the store yesterday and I knew I had a half-sandwich leftover in the fridge for dinner...I was SOOO close to stopping at 5 Guys to get some fries to go with it - was out of the car and at the door, but then I turned around and went back to my car. Willpower. Yikes. Had Baked Ruffles instead.

I honestly just don't like In-N-Out the few times I've eaten there. Their burgers are fine, but their fries are meh - which knocks them down a huge peg in my book, as it's about 50/50 for me on the importance. Literally...I wouldn't even really bother eating them.
Of course you can get shakes, which is a plus.

Had my first Five Guys Burger and Fries experience tonight thanks to this thread. :) Good advice on the smaller size fries, went with the smaller burger too. The fries quantity officially reached ridiculous levels when my whole family (me, wife, 13 y/o son) not only shared a single large order but still had leftover fries.
Trust me, that's something that just doesn't happen, not with me & my kid both in the mix.
Burger-wise, I've always felt like they were kind of overrated but they certainly don't seem to be hurting for business due to my opinion.

I had 5 guys in Florida and once at the airport in D.C., not a bad burger at all. I have to admit, fries weren't that good though. Just like In-n-Out's fries. If I went to In-n-Out 100 times, I might get fries once out of those 100 visits.
Both places are different in how they make their burgers, but, both make very tasty burgers. I'd put Sonic burgers up there with them.
