I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to some traditional family favorites these holidays. My Mom makes THE BEST Creme of Squirrel that you can find above the Mason-Dixon line. And Dad's famous Jawbreaker Brownies are an adventure with every bite!

Not holiday treats but since I'm moving we're having a big poker night tonight, the host is picking up Sam & Dave's Mac and Cheese and making homemade Muffuletta Sandwiches, the two major "food highlights" of the last 7-8 years w/ this crowd. I'm looking forward to that quite a bit!

Since my joke seems to have gone over people's heads, this was a joke. Who wants Jawbreakers in their brownies!

2-2pound containers, one containing Au Gratin potatoes, the other green bean casserole(yuck)

Jawbreaker: a hard candy consisting of layer upon layer of sugary hardness. Known to break the jaw. Or block the gullet.

I think I'm making the only holiday treat I can think of at the moment: fudge. I always remember all the cookies and desserts my mom would make as a kid, but she's taking her retirement off.

Just got home from our schools annual Cookie Walk. Parents make cookies galore and teachers walk around the tables with big containers and take as they please. It's pretty much the best day of the year.

In addition, Grandma's Peanut Brittle. I have yet to ever taste any as good as hers and as soon as someone has a piece, they agree. I wish she would listen and let us sell the stuff.

My wife makes a delicious mud pie every Christmas and it is has become my favorite holiday dish.

My mom makes great fudge, and these things called Goofballs...coconut, pecans, sweetened condensed milk, and powdered suger rolled into a ball and then dipped in chocolate. Absolute heaven.

The M-i-L makes Hello Dollies which are like crack. One I have one, I can't stop eating them...

Well, I make a kick-ass pumpkin bread, and recently starting making some darn tasty gingerbread, so I've been bringing those kinds of baked goods to work all week.

Though I expect this Christmas Eve to be fairly subdued (my grandmother passed this year, and her birthday was Christmas Eve), there are still things we'll eat, as part of our family tradition, that I only really ever eat for Christmas...perogies and meat pie being the big ones. Not frozen store-bought perogies, my mom and I are going to try our hands at making them this year (previously we'd buy the ones that the Lady's Guild at my grandmother's church would make--but that's in Connecticut, and we'll be down here this year, in Maryland), that's on tap for the weekend. Meat pie I suppose my mom might make more than once a year, but the only time I get it is for Christmas. That was a part of my dad's family's tradition (his parents passed years ago), and my mom does it for him (even though traditionally I guess the Polish do a meatless Christmas Eve, at least that's what my grandparents always said).

My mom will probably make cookies, but those don't interest me as much. I'm much more looking forward to the bread she's been making for the last few years (I might help out with that this year, too). I think it was her grandmother's recipe, and it's become a family tradition to have that bread for breakfast, and snack, and really, all the time, it's damn good (and makes like 10 loaves so I always get to take 1 or 2 home!). :)
