I finally got to open my Christmas XBOX360 and the games I got were Elder Scrolls and NBA 2k8.

My question is in a console sales thread or something someone was talking about the fac tthat the game is much better with some d/l'd mods.

Knowing my habits I will not play through the game more than once, mods or no mods. So, for my one chance to play it - should I be d/l'd mods to get the best experience? If so, which ones?

Well... you play it ;).

Yeah, it is better with mods, but most mods are for the PC version. Not sure if there are many out there for the XBox 360 version.

Now what? Don't play it.

I can only speak to the PC version and not the console.

As large as Oblivion is, I'd suggest just playing the game as is. I bought it for the PS3 when it was released and got 70+ hours of gaming out of it. Unless you have no job and tons of game time, you'll get plenty of fun out of the game as is.

Hrm, I've heard much different from a lot of other people.

Cool - that was my feeling. With that gaming time it might take me a year to finish ;).

If you happen to go through the main game and still want more, you can always download the other stuff. My guess is that you'll be like me and enjoy it, but you'll be ready to move on to something else once you finish it.

Just play as it is. It's an awesome game.

Not much you can do with the 360 version, fire it up and play. I don't think you can do anything, but you could buy the expansions if you didn't get the Game of the Year edition, but the mini ones I don't believe are worth it. The actual Shivering Isles expansions I don't know about it. I didn't hear much.

That being said, I can't imagine playing it without mods. There are some things seriously broken with the game mechanics, and at least the PC has some mods to adjust it.

I wasn't overly happy with it, but it's an impressive looking game and has a nice illusion of being open-ended.

Definitely go through the Brotherhood quests though. Those are far and away the best in the game.

I think the first thing you do is start an Alright Boyzzz thread.

;)...

I bought the big fat guide for it..

I think the last RPG I played was the original Baldur's Gate, so I think there's going to be a bit of a learning curve for me.

The learning curb on Oblivion is much milder than BG, which IMO is good when you have limited gaming time as you can finish a 2-3 quests on a good night and not get bogged down.
