Well, now that the big day has come and gone and we've had a chance to take the wii for a test drive, I am giving the console a big thumbs up.
More than just a gimmick, the wiimotes are awesome. Playing wii sports is such a blast and I'll never look at a sports title the same way again. I can't wait to pick up Tiger Woods '08.
Yes, the graphics suck. However, when you're having a great time actually using your hands to box and you can't stop laughing as you follow through on a golf swing and twirl around almost knocking over your christmas tree, do the graphics really matter? I have my PC for graphics. I don't think I'll ever be able to play a golf game on any other platform ever again.
It definitely is a party console, but I'm also putting Resident Evil 4 through it's paces and even though it's taking some getting used to (I like my FPS's with keyboard/mouse) I can see myself branching out and not just getting the Mario Party type stuff. Aiming with the wiimote to shoot is really great. I love my mouse, but this is fun in a different way. Moving around is a different story, but I'm getting used to it.
The virtual console has less appeal to me than probably most others. My nostalgia begins and ends with Super Mario 3 which I did buy Christmas Day ($5). Love that game. My old GameCube controllers work perfectly for that.
There is huge potential for this to be a platform where developers can whip up some easy/cheap games for download and I hope that is where they are going with their online shopping channel.
Is it perfect? No. Was it worth the waiting in line during a snowstorm at 6 am on a Sunday? I would do it again, if that means anything.

I actually got mine for the family after X-mas last year. My personal favorite is still boxing and am looking forward to a more realistic boxing game to come out. The fun part is this is a console that all members of your family or friends can play regardless of age. My daughter (8) loves the Rayman & Spongebob games, Stepson (11) Madden -this is actually the only system he will play it on, my wife is hooked on Zelda. One of the first games I downloaded was Galaga & enjoy playing it just as I did on many trips during college to the laundry mat. Enjoy!

I love the Wii - not exactly 'amazing next gen' in graphics but playability in bucket loads which is what counts imho ...
(that being said since he got a PS-3 for christmas my son hasn't turned ours on ..)

I haven't really given it a good test-drive yet, but I have been very impressed by what I've seen so far. The fact that I didn't get any extra controllers, and that every store in my area is out of them isn't helping me experience it much.

I got one for Christmas and I'm also very impressed. The Bowling and Boxing on Wii Sports are a great deal of fun. Mrs. E and I have been playing a few games of bowling together every night this week. We both are really enjoying the Radiant Dawn games as well as Trauma Center. I'm looking forward to seeing what other great games come down the pike for the Wii.

The Wii was a novelty for about two months. Now it sits unused. My kids would rather play on the 360. Me too.

I was right with you until my 360 red-ringed for the second time. So I picked up Mario Galaxy and Mario & Sonic Olympics (the only game my fiance has ever been willing to play other than Wii Sports) and don't really care if they ever get the XBox back to me.

What games do you have?
Mine hasn't gone unplayed over a 24 hour period in the last year.

I love my Wii, have played it steadily ever since I got it last year. I'm also starting to use some of its other features more, I really like the news channel, being able to spin the globe around to find stories is cool!

Super Mario Galaxy is pretty awesome, I do have to say. Like mind blowingly awesome... until I vomit like 35 minutes into the game from all the damn spinning. I don't think I've ever felt motion sickness from a video game.

Play Katamari Damacy on a big-screen TV. That'll send you puking in no time.

I got my son POTC 3 and Resident Evil 4 on Wii for Xmas...he loves them both and is having a ball swordfighting as Jack Sparrow. I checked into RE 4 before I got it since it's rated M, but found out it's mainly for violence, which I'm OK with - it isn't too realistic and less graphic than some of the movies he's seen.
I love our Wii, would recommend to anyone to buy it. It's been the most played system we've had so far.

You like the Olympics game? I'm getting a Wii as soon as they are in stock at Best Buy (gift card) and if it's good I think my fiance would like it (the Wii is really for her) - but I was reading up on games on IGN and they panned it big time.

I've heard good things about it. It's somewhat similar to Track and Field for the NES. Basically the same events and a good multiplayer/party game.

I got a chance for my first extended Wii playing on Christmas, as my brother got one. I'd play one a few different times, but not too much and only games that used pretty standard control schemes, none of the fancier wii stuff.
I had an absolute blast. Bowling and Boxing on Wii Sports were both top notch, and I can't wait for an actual Boxing game to come out for the system that works on that system and adds a fully functioning game on top of it. I could see playing that one for quite some time. It's also the best workout I've ever had playing a game, but I think I took it a little more seriously than necessary. So I'll be waiting for a boxing game, and hey lets add something for foot movement also, would that Wii Fit board I've seen function with that? I might never need another game if that came to pass.
Bowling was fun as well, and the highlight of the day was seeing my Grandma out there playing bowling with her great grand-daughter. That is one thing I never thought I'd see. That really makes it clear why the Wii is doing so well, moments like that.
I was actually sore the day after Christmas. The baseball/tennis games can be pretty brutal on the elbow/shoulder. It was depressing waking up sore from playing it the next day.
Let me also add that people who barely move the controller in games(don't do the full swing of the bat, or actually throw a punch, are lame! You ain't playing if you aren't looking like an idiot)
I still don't feel an urge to buy one, but one or two more games coming out for it that I really want to play and I'll seriously consider it.
I saw some game, Wii Playground I think it was that had a dodgeball game on it. Anyone play that? Dodgeball if done right could be pretty fun on there I think, but wondered how it was done.

+1
I'm still 100% behind the innovations they are making, but for me so far the software isn't there yet. Someday there may be a golf game for the Wii to rival the real thing, but for now my time is still spent on TW, Rock Band and Halo 3 for the 360.

I'm similar to that. I haven't used mine since October.

We had SSX (Tricky? I think) and Spider-Man Friend or Foe. No games turned me on like the Wii Sports.

My son really likes Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and I find it ok. Its a must to actually have someone to play the game with or it gets old really fast. Its also a game you need to give a few hours of playtime before you judge, though. It gets more fun as you learn to play the events.
The strong points of the game are the variety in the events and the fact that the controls really aren't repetitive. Each event uses the controls in a different way and for the most part its really intuitive.

My family's results are in. I plugged it in early Christmas Eve, and it was pretty much in use in lieu of TV for three straight days.
My brother and sisters have either purchased, or plan to purchase one as a result of their exposure to ours.

My wife's younger sister is staying over at our house tonight due to needing to be in Baton Rouge early for a work training session tomorrow. She is anti videogames and thinks that my interest in them is silly. She also always needles my wife about her playing them. Well, I just went downstairs during halftime of the Georgia-Hawaii game and she is flailing around like a fool playing Wii Sports Tennis. Apparently, they have been playing Wii Sports for the last 3-4 hours and she is ready to buy one for her family.

It's a blast to play with a group.
I was thinking about a game that would probably be pretty cool on the Wii if the controls were done right is the next UFC game (whenever it is finally coming out). I don't think it's slated for the Wii but there could be some decent possibilities there.
