I was fearing that Are you kidding me? was going to get it. Everytime I read that, it was in Jim Mora's voice followed by Playoffs?

I think he was mercifully generous in not giving the 1st runner up the prize because it, frankly was everything he described and easily the most used verbal crutch in sports yet again.
That said, the winner was more of a lifetime achievement award. But one that deserved it.

I was sad the first runner up didn't win (because it is still my most hated phrase), but surprised to hear it won the past two years. I didn't realize the cliche has been around so long.

I know it's early, but if "Signature Win" does not take the trophy for 2008, this contest is invalid.

oooh....I hate "It Is What It Is" -- I hear it all the time in the office, too, and it bugs the crap out of me.

Who really has gotten a "signature win" so far this season that you've heard it a lot? The only sports you can get these in are college football and basketball due to the silliness of polls whereas there are more objective measures for pro sports. But most of football was done before 2008 and a lot of "signature wins" for college were before the new year.

Well I know Kansas football got a "signature win" this year:D
And I know the term is not limited to college football and basketball
The Celtics got a "signature win" when they beat the Pistons and the Suns got a "signature win" when they beat the Spurs. Not to mention last Sunday's signature win for Eli Manning.

Eli coming up with a Signature Win next Sunday might end the race early.

I've lost track of how many times I've heard about teams either getting a signature win or looking for a signature win so far this year. It's taken on a life of its own. The reason I posted this yesterday is that between ESPN and the UK/USC game, I heard that phrase 7 times in about 90 minutes.
