Alan T and I are running a bbcf mp league with a traditional bowl setup (see signature). There's some other fun twists as well, like the old Southwest Conference and the Big 8. We're almost done with our first offseason. We have a great bunch of people involved, including famous FOFCers Passacaglia, Huckleberry, Vegas Vic, path12, hoopsguy. We've also had some expected turnover, and the following schools are available: USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama.

Early on, a few people were having download and upload issues, but I think we have resolved all that, and things have been running very smoothly for a while now.

If you're interested in playing with us, post here, and we'll get you set up.

Following teams are taken:

Georgia Tech
South Carolina
Texas
Ohio State
Illinois
Iowa
Michigan
Northwestern
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Louisiana-Lafayette
Middle Tennessee State
Miami, FL
Navy
Wyoming
California
Oregon State
Stanford
UCLA
Washington
Auburn
Georgia
Tennessee
Rutgers
UNLV

The problem is you have numbers in your username, and I have a hard time recollecting how to spell names that have numbers. :p

It's a good league, and the format is refreshing, as there are no playoffs or BCS bowls. It's the way college football was played until the BCS came about in 1998. There is a mythical national champion (1st place in the coaches poll) after the bowl games.

I would recommend it to anyone who has BBCF or to anyone who is interested in purchasing the game. It's a lot of fun.

I'm pretty sure Florida is taken, but I don't see them on the list above.

I'll take Miami (FL) as a 2nd team if they are available. If not, then how about USC? Alabama? Looking for someone that has more advantages than good old University of Illinois.

Florida isn't taken. The person who used to have them had to drop due to time issues. So it is available

It's definitely a good league. Even though it says Michigan is taken, I don't mind giving them up for someone, since I am already coaching Michigan in cartman's league. I'm willing to share the wealth.

So is this a done deal? Miami is an interesting case -- a high prestige team, coming off something like a 2-10 season. It'll also mean we'll play each other three times this season.

Leonidas is being set up as Ohio St, and Joe has registered on the forums, so I will be setting him up as Rutgers (unless Cronin did that on Tuesday's sim). Hoops, if you want Miami, I'll set that up as well on Thursday. I'll also clean up the team owner list on the forums after Thursday.

I added Miami, Rutgers, and UNLV (vegas vic) in the last sim. Blanked out on Ohio State because I'm an idiot. My apologies to Leonidas.

By the way, I wanted to give cronin a public thank-you for all the work he's done on this. I know he's not the only one running the league, but he's really helped me out a TON getting everything scheduled exactly the way I want it, which is pretty hard to do as an independent. I think it'll be easier for us going forward, now that we've got a handle on the process and have some time for other people in the league to schedule games with me for next year. Thanks again!

Wait until he sees his recruiting class this year. It will bring tears to his eyes.

I own the game and had some fun with it but haven't played in a while. Don't know how to play in an online league either, but I might be interested in Michigan if you decide to drop it....

For everyone shedding tears over the Ohio State class, take a look at what the Hurricanes brought in this year.

Seriously, WTF is going on with Minnesota bringing in studs and the Hurricanes getting one signing (#1300-something in the nation)????

Playing in an online league is pretty easy -- it's really just like playing single player, except instead of hitting "advance stage" you hit "online" then "export coach file" -- then you send the file to the commissioners.

Like I said, if you want Michigan, it's yours. Even though it's my alma mater, I don't mind dropping them since a) I'm already coaching them in another league, and b) I'd like to see this league get more people in it. I've done some nice recruiting with them (our class was ranked #3 overall), and they have a stud sophomore QB, but the O-line is pretty weak.

Its a quirk of human participation. If a player misses a couple of exports, the class can fall apart pretty quickly. Ohio State and Miami were both abandoned during recruiting.

Not to mention, since the league allows us to coach two teams, I have an up-and-coming Florida State squad to fall back on. So it's not like I'd be scrambling to hook up with a team.

Agree with this. I've been able to miss exports in the middle of recruiting and not have it mess me up too much, but if you miss one early, it hurts. The good news, I think, is that later on, you have a ton of scholarships available, and you'll bascially pick up where you left off, and maybe have a breakout year when the guys in your next class are seniors.

Theoretically, yes. We haven't come to this yet, but probably one of two things will happen: Either we'll have somebody else run the team for the bowl, or else we simply won't allow that to happen. We're setting all the bowl matchups by hand, so the latter is more likely.

If you are up for it, sign up on our forums and let me know which team(s) you are interested in, so I can set it up for you in tonight's sim (otherwise you have to wait till the weekend) and can't actually join in to play until next week.

Likewise Pass, if you're moving to a different team, let me know which one so I can do that too.

I guess the only unavoidable bowl matchup is the Rose Bowl. But if someone wins both the Big Ten and Pac Ten, maybe they deserve the chance to play it out themselves?

I would rather poke my eyes out with sticks. I loathe all Boston area teams (no offense to you Boston/NE lovers).

Do you have any others available? I would take Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Boise State, Idaho (haha), Penn State, USC, Pitt, Illinois, Arizona State, and a few others I suppose. I don't care for Texas teams or pure basketball schools (aka North Carolina). Yes, I am being picky. :D

On a side note, how time consuming is this online league thing? I get bitched at if I am on my computer for more than a half hour sometimes....(by the wife that is).

Penn State and Pitt are, I think, both in the northeast recruiting region, and are available - I think both would be a lot of fun. Likewise Idaho, Boise State, USC, and AZ State are out west and available.

I'd say 15-20 total for two teams per sim for me -- maybe 20-30 if I try to get fancy with playbooks.

cronin, do you have a 2nd team in this league, or by two teams, do you also mean your team in cartman's league?

Someone already beat you to the "recruit like shit" strategy for OSU this year. Which, as the Illini coach, I'm all for seeing until we catch up to their program. However, I'm guessing new coach Leonidas has other plans for the next recruiting season.

Oh, too bad. I loathe OSU with the very fiber of my being. Of course, after the ridiculous stomping by the Florida Gators in the Capitol One Bowl, I hate the Gators even more than I did before. You see, I have relatives that live 10 miles from Gainesville, and all I ever heard from them was how great Florida is. Hahahahahah. F-U Florida Gators. Go chomp your own peckers. Bunch of putzes.

Now that I got that out of my system.
