As you might or might not know in 2009 all signals will be sent digitally over the air. For those with older TVs you'll need a converter box (est cost: 50-70). The government is providing $40 coupons to subsidize the cost of those converter boxes here at http://www.dtv2009.gov . You can request up to 2 coupons.

But here is the problem, a recent survey found that only about a third of U.S. households were prepared for the switch. What the survey (and others like it) also found was that homes with better connections - broadband and digital cable – are more likely than other households to be aware of the impending transition. This seems to defeat the purpose of raising awareness since it seems that the people who are most likely to be affected are the ones who are most likely to need the information. Awareness of the problem appears to be the leading factor in the decision to make the switch.
