View Full Version : Suggestion: Record breaking announcement

It occurred to me that one thing I'd love to see in the game is an e-mail each week letting me know any league records that were broken that week. Particularly of course having to do with my team, but especially as the league history moves on it would be good to know someone broke the record sacks, for example, without having to go try to look for it each week end. Seems this would be a nice thing to throw in the "E-Mail" section so people could ignore it if they wanted to.

I like this idea. Seconded for the next version.

Agreed, I would love to see that. Would be a bit annoying in the first couple of seasons, so maybe set it to only switch on after season 5 or something (or make it user defined).
Another thing that would be nice to get emailed about is when your players retire at the end of the season.

Agreed. That's one of the things I often forget to check, retirement, and suddenly realize at training camp that I'm missing a starter :-O
The records would be annoying the first year, but you could just not bother looking at the announcement. That's what I often have to do with the assessment of my starters ;-)

Agreed. Would be nice to have.

I'd also like the in-game commentary to say this as well.
The e-mail feature needs to be expanded, i love to get info about my universe or else i tend to go to fast to pay atention to details. i'm too used to FM where you get tons of news every day with everything in your game world and i really miss a news section in FOF after each game week, with the best performances, players news, etc etc. I know i can go to each different screen to gather that info but... a news system with the most important things would help a lot the imersion factor (and shouldn't be so hard to code as the info is already in the game, it's just a central place where to get it in a newspaper or online website fashion).

This would be a nice touch, not only league records but any team marks as well.

The FOFL is in its 15th season, and a running back is poised to break the all-time rushing record in today's sim. The current all-time leader retired seasons ago, and no active player is within 2,800 yards, and looking at the guys behind him, this is a record that will stand for at least 5 or 6 seasons, if not much longer. Point being, this is a big deal in league history, and FOF gives no indication of it. What should happen here? At a bare minimum, on the carry when he gets his 36th yard of the day to break the record, it should be noted both in Solevision and the game log, and there should be an e-mail sent to his owner.
Long-term, I'd like to see the following additions in this arena:
Options for e-mail notification for both team and league records. (Make both optional so you can turn it off for the first few seasons.)
Options for Solevision and game log notification of team and league records.
A new screen that shows guys nearing breaking league records.
A new "milestone" screen that shows guys nearing such marks as:
10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 yards rushing
10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 yards receiving
40,000, 50,000 and 60,000 yards passing
100, 150, and 150 sacks
50 and 100 interceptions
1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 points
300, 400 and 500 touchdown passes
100 rushing touchdowns
100 receiving touchdowns
Solevision and game log notification of the above milestone numbers.
Some sort of "news" page or ticker that shows all of the above milestones set during the current season, and, if selected, team/league records as well.I agree with the person who said that team and league records would be annoying in the first few years of a career, thus my suggestion to make those optional. I'd probably turn them on in SP around season 10.
This sort of stuff would REALLY add to the immersion level in both SP and MP. Even in MP, when people are paying attention, no one in the FOFL noticed that a significant league record was about to broken until the guy was within 36 yards of breaking it.

Yeah, agreed with everyone here. It'd also be great if you could import historical records if you're going to start with an NFL based career...that'd be awesome. These kind of interactive things would be huge to immersion, especially if they were incorporated nicely into a functional GUI.
Really, a calendar day to day type sim for FOF would be awesome. Expand out the team chemistry a bit, possibly be able to run some practices, work on getting your team prepared.....all that stuff added to the game would be amazing upgrade for SP.
