I posted this same question 2 months ago.

Is there ever going to be a download version for FOF4?

I'm not paying shipping for something that I can directly download in 5 minutes from home.

You could email Jim to find out an approximate time frame. At this point I don't think he's made an announcement as to when it will be available.

Two months ago in the live chat Jim said that he will be working on another patch for FOF4 and that after it was released he would then consider making a downloadable version of the sim available but not before. He also gave a time frame for the patch as being at or near the end of the summer. It would seem that you still have some time to wait so the fact is that you can't directly download it in 5 minutes from home and won't be able to for several months to come yet. So five dollars for S&H breaks down to spending about one dollar per month in order to get the game five months earlier as opposed to waiting until it is available via download. Not really all that bad.

At this point depending upon the economics of providing such a feature what the purpose is for bothering if it increases expenses vs cd...

the download version will be available the day the last CD version is sold.

Didn't Jim say the patch and dl version would be a summer release?

I'll probably buy the game when the d/l version is released as well. Its not so much that I'm waiting for the moment, but I'm sure one weekend I'll be bored enough and get the feeling to make the purchase if its instantly available. If its never released as a d/l, I'll live. Afterall, CM4 comes out soon.

[JimG] I plan to put out an update this summer, either a 4.0c or a 4.1, depending on how much changes. ...
[JimG] People have been sending suggestions through email. When it comes time to design the update, I'll take everything I've received into account.

[JimG] When the next update is done, I'll create the downloadable version at that time. I haven't made any final cost decisions yet, though the $29.95 price point seems to be a good one for the TCY download.

[PrimeLord] Since we will need so long for the downloadable version does that mean that there are plenty of CD Rom versions still available for purchase?

[JimG] Yes. Inventory is still at about 25%. If I run out, then I'll try to get the downloadable version together before 4.0c.
