I live in illinois.

Ok my situation.

My girlfriends, ex-boyfriend. She was best friends and all that fun stuff for a long time. He knew her long before I did. Her dad was addicted and threw his life away for cocain. Her friend did it in front of her and she got pissed off to the point she didnt talk to him. He called her about a week ago and she answered and basically told him off. He then called me, and threatened me, my parents, and my home. He later apologized. A couple days ago, my girlfriend got a voicemail saying that me, her, and her mom were "done" from one of this guy's friends. Tonight, he left her a voicemail saying that I was in trouble or whatever cuz his boss was coming down to my school and messing me up. My question is, is there anything we can do about harrasing phone calls? We only have a couple voicemails, and while threatening, I'm not sure if police will be able to follow through with it. I know he's basically thinking he's hot shit, and that nothing will happen but I would love to see the police grab his ass because he is especially afraid of police. Is there anything I can do? Or my girlfriend can do? Will informing the police really do anything? Or will they not relaly be able to do anything?

Kind of the same thing happened to me several years ago. I was a witness in a trial, and I was being harassed by the defendant. The police told me there was nothing they could do, but to get a caller ID and reverse block or whatever, and start recording their messages. Then maybe they could do something. But please be sure to be on time to court to testify.

Crime is so rampant now, at least here, that police won't respond unless you are in immediate danger.

I'm no expert but I would think it's at least grounds for a restraining order.

I don't think that it can hurt to call the police and ask them what can be done.

I'd save the voicemails. You should be able to get a restraining order on this guy based on those alone. It would be helpful in case the guy does anything else.
