View Full Version : Out of Bounds Bug?

Not sure if this has been discussed/brought up but the following are a series of consecutive plays in a MP game that my team was part of today in the NAFL.

It *really* bugged me at the time, especially when I was forced to kick a field goal in the dying seconds on a third down because the clock wasn't stopping like it should have when we ran out of bounds twice in the last three minutes.

Here's the log:

<TABLE cellSpacing=1 width="98%" bgColor=#ffcc00 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#ffffff>Kansas City: Single-Back formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and 3-deep zone coverage, keying aggressively on the pass. Taylor is blitzing.
3-5-NED39 (2Q: 03:03) Ken Dorsey pass completed to WR George Clemons for 10 yards. Tackled by ILB Luke Wayne. Clemons gained 6 yards after the catch.</TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#ffffff>Kansas City: Pro formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, keying aggressively on the run.
1-10-NED29 (2Q: 02:22) Ken Dorsey pass completed to WR Bernard Berrian for 8 yards. The receiver went out of bounds. Tackled by S Eugene Wilson.</TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#000066>Official time out for the two-minute warning.</TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#ffffff>Kansas City: I formation with two tight ends, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and strong-side man, otherwise cover-7 zone coverage, expecting the pass.
2-2-NED21 (2Q: 02:00) Ken Dorsey pass completed to TE Darren Galloway for 2 yards. The receiver went out of bounds. Tackled by S Eugene Wilson.</TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#ffffff>Kansas City: Weak formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and 3-deep zone coverage, expecting the pass. Howe is blitzing.
1-10-NED19 (2Q: 01:21) Ken Dorsey pass completed to FB Howard Howe for 9 yards. Tackled by CB Fernando Gildon. Howe gained 8 yards after the catch.</TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#ffffff>Kansas City: Single-Back formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 and 1-deep, bump-and-run coverage, expecting the pass. Marshall is blitzing.
2-1-NED10 (2Q: 00:53) Bernard Berrian ran a reverse around left end for 6 yards. Tackled by DE Freddie Preston, assisted by ILB Fernando LaStarza. Key block delivered by Jeb Terry. </TD></TR><TR><TD align=left bgColor=#000066>Kansas City called a time out.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

So with 2:22 left in the half, Dorsey throws an eight yard completion to Berrian, who goes out of bounds. We hit the two minute warning...you mean to tell me that play took 22 seconds? Doubt it but I suppose it's possible.

The next play, however, proves there is something wrong...

Dorsey throws a two yard completion on the first play after the warning and again it goes out of bounds. Yet the next play starts with 1:21 remaining?!

Bug worthy? Has anyone else seen this?

I may be wrong, but I think the clock doesn't stop when you go out of bounds unless there's less than five minutes to go in the game, or less than two minutes to go in the first half (that's what it was the last I knew). Maybe the game is looking at when the play started, and since it's less than two minutes, it's not stopping the clock? That's the best I can come up with -- it could also just be totally screwy.

bingo.

less than two minutes in the FIRST half is the key... and 5 in the 4th quarter.

So the guy goes out of bounds AFTER the two minute warning but the clock doesn't stop?

That makes no sense...

I agree that the 2nd play should have resulted in the clock stopping. I think I typo'ed in my first post, though. My thinking was that the game might be looking at the time at the start of the play, and since that time was NOT less than two minutes, the clock didn't stop.

Could it have been a forward progress situation like we saw last night in the Dallas game?? If you are giving forward progress and then are pushed out of bounds then the clock doesn't stop because you can't have it both ways.

Then it wouldn't say the receiver went out of bounds. (in the NFL) if forward progress is ruled, theres no "out of bounds" ever listed in the play by play. Its a bug.

Good point.
