Report: Moss Served With Temporary Restraining Order
Woman In Florida Accuses Patriots Receiver Of Battery

POSTED: 11:31 am EST January 16, 2008
UPDATED: 12:22 pm EST January 16, 2008
A Florida radio station is reporting that a woman has filed for an order of protection against Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, but Moss is denying the allegations.

Radio station 580 WDBO reported that the woman said in an affidavit in Broward County that Moss committed battery on her, causing serious injury and refusing to allow her to seek medical help.

Moss was served with a temporary injunction and ordered to not come within 500 feet of the woman or use or possess firearms, the station reported.

There was no indication when the incident was alleged to have occurred, and no criminal charges have been filed. A hearing was set for Jan. 28 to determine whether to make the injunction permanent.

Boston.com reported that Moss responded to the allegations to a group of reporters at Gillette Stadium.

"First of all, you all probably heard about these allegations. All I want to say is that they are false allegations," Moss said.

Moss said that he doesn't know exactly what has been alleged, but he said he and his attorneys were called and warned that the story would go public unless he gave the woman money.

"All I know is that it's a friend of mine, a young lady, it was an accident where she hurt herself, to where they called me, called my attorneys, trying to get X amount of dollars out of me, and if 'we don't get X amount of dollars' they were going to go to the press before this game," Moss said.

Moss denied harming the woman.

"That's really not my makeup," Moss said. "That's not me. I've never been in that situation where I've had to put my hands on any woman, any lady."

The Patriots are preparing to play the San Diego Chargers this weekend in the AFC Championship Game.

Isn't Moss the guy who ran over some people with his car years ago too? I guess everyone is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but some people news like this just doesn't suprise you :)

I wonder what happens if she gets 50-yard line tickets to the playoffs. The Chargers should look into this.

eh. i find it interesting that he came out and said that it was an extortion attempt. presumably he has his attorneys to back that up (as he seems to say). I don't think his attorny would lie if asked that under oath, with the potential to be disbarred, so I'm thinking Randy may be telling the truth.

Didn't someone here post a story about knowing a girl that went out with Randy before he was a famous athlete, and he would be pretty violent with her?

I'm not saying he's guilty, but it seems at least plausible.

Either way, this wouldn't surprise me. Wouldn't surprise me if Randy did something wrong here, and wouldn't surprise me if someone he knew was trying to take advantage of his history, and it wouldn't surprise me if Don Shula was behind it all somehow ;-)

I guess as long as it was within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage, his bumping the traffic cop with his car should be legal!

Well, hell, since we're not correcting mispercetions lets add one of our own.

Randy bumped a traffic cop. She wasn't writing him a ticket. He didn't get charged with it either. From witness accounts it was likely that she was showboating and actually jumped on his car to get him to stop then fell off.

Whatever the issue, all Randy got was "careless driving" and "obstructing traffic with a vehicle." I challenge anyone to find an example of anyone running over a cop with a car and that's their only charge.

Now, we're not just saying he ran her over but she was writing a ticket at the time.

You know, I actually heard that she was trying to wrest a newborn baby out of Randy's mouth. Yeah, Randy had just breathed fire on the newborns mother then popped the infant into his mouth. He was just about to summon the antichrist but the Traffic Cop, a true and noble servant of all that is good, was trying to grab the child and give Randy a ticket for uncontrolled burn when he jumped into his car and ran her over repeatedly then sped off with the infant.

And our criminal justice system is so completely screwed up that they felt this only merited tickets for careless driving and obstructing traffic with a vehicle. Our criminal justice system sucks.

Im not buying this story. If he really did it, he would have just paid her off to keep her mouth shut. Straight cash homey. Plus she is 35, why would a Randy Moss be all upset over her anyway when he has 20 year old models that he could have whenever he wanted?

I'm glad he put that "in an angry manner" qualifier on there, for a second I thought ESPN had got confused and accidentally quoted Terrell Owens.

hxxp://www.thetandd.com/articles/2002/12/12/news/pm5.txtUmmm, my bad? I knew it wasn't that serious, but didn't look it up. I guess I assumed if he was bumping a traffic cop she would have been writing a ticket at the time. Or we can keep making up stories, because I heard it was Eddie Griffin's truck and that's why Moss was distracted and didn't see the cop. Plus his hometown buddy Jason Williams was there yelling racial epithets.

Hey, that post wasn't really directed at you but to try and deflect where that one was heading since IMHO it has zero to do with the current case and while it isn't an example of good conduct, it's not as cut and dry as people use the example to try and paint his character.

Hey, there;s enough legit on randy to criticize that it bugs me when people embellish the small stuff.

But, I heard that Jayson Williams was joined by Warren Sapp who called himself Traffic Matron Killa and asked her for a dub while Mike Vick was telling Paul McCartney how to smuggle weed on an airplane. :D

If it is, then I apologize, but too many of his posts come across like blow-hard know-it-all braggards who don't actually know jack shit, especially when it comes to sports. I've got a buddy of mine who's just like that and it's also a part of why I've cut back a lot of the time I spend hanging around him.

Buddy, you've gotta learn to lighten up a little. I was just joking about Moss being suspended for something that's probably not even true and believing a woman who is probably just out to earn a quick buck. I don't know how I came across as a know it all in that post or any post. In fact, most people here would tell you that I know nothing at all about anything and I would tend to agree with them. So just take it easy man. No need to get upset about some guy posting something you don't like on an internet message board. You're better than that.

To hear Moss use the word "accident" in regards to the woman's injuries is a major red flag for domestic violence

Well that's true because never in the history of humanity has a man "accidentally" injured a woman. It's always domestic violence. I say we throw him under the jail.

Its temporary unti the court decides the case. If she was still worried about this when the initial restraining order expired she would request another one. I'm not sure how to comment on your last line. I think if she didnt think the restraining order was enough she could ask for more help.

Boston radio host John Dennis (I know the source is shit, but there's not much news about this anyway) has been saying this morning that after talks with "several sources" in Florida (who could those be anyway?) that she injured her hand/arm while she and Moss were "vigorously enjoying each other's company."

Now I'm interested in this story.

Isn't this why Kobe got in trouble in Denver? Oh no, that's cause she wasn't built to vigorously enjoy his company.
