big hair album of all time.
Greatest hits albums do not count.
I could get it down to seven semi-finalists, but after that I got stuck. We can vote on this for about a week and then I will start a new poll with the two or three top vote getters and we can then vote for the champ.
Now in alphabetical order the HornsManiac semi-finalists are...
1. 1984 (Van Halen)
key songs: Jump, Panama, Hot For Teacher
2. Appetite for Destruction (Guns N' Roses)
key songs: Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O Mine
3. Dr. Feelgood (Motley Crue)
key songs: Dr. Feelgood, Kickstart My Heart, Don't Go Away Mad, Without You
4. Hysteria (Def Leppard)
key songs: Hysteria, Animal, Love Bites, Pour Some Sugar On Me
5. Look What the Cat Dragged In (Poison)
key songs: I Want Action, I Won't Forget You, Talk Dirty To Me, Cry Tough
6. Out of the Cellar (Ratt)
key songs: Wanted Man, Round and Round, Back for More
7. Slippery When Wet (Bon Jovi)
key songs: You Give Love a Bad Name, Living On a Prayer, Wanted Dead Or Alive, I'd Die For You

I remember the first time I saw Poison's "Look What the Cat Dragged In." It was a white album with four close-up pictures of their faces and with all the make-up and hair I couldn't figure out if they were chicks or dudes. :D

I voted for Hysteria. I'll never forget at my bachelor party (1989), when my groomsmen and other friends were gathered around playing poker, eating, drinking, and doing various other male activities (*cough*). Someone put this CD on, and to a man we all raved about it. Great stuff.
I could not in good conscience vote for 1984. As much as I like the album - I still think "Panama" is one of the best driving songs of all time - I'll always associate it with a guy on my dorm floor playing his electric guitar (and "playing" is WAY too kind) to the title song over and over and over and over...

Yeah, we sat around giving each other testicular exams. It was a real hoot. I figured hey, last night as a single man, why not? It's amazing what a few dozen beers'll do.
We also watched Gladiator movies.

I can't help you with the 80's rock, but as soon as you want to determine the greatest Emo album ever released, let me know.

Fugazi, In on the Kill Taker.. easily the best 'emo' if thats what it goes by. I know some have considered fugazi the godfathers of emo, but no longer a part of the scene. They are gods. Have been since the beginning. The new shit is a little fruity at times, but there are moments of brilliance even now.

I don't think Guns N Roses count as a hair band. They were around at the time, but they were different.

Kodos - Guns N' Roses was definitely a hair band. They wore as much hair spray as anyone. Well, Slash and Izzy didn't but Axl, Duff, and Steven certainly wore plenty. I mean, maybe they never wore makeup, but there were a lot of bands that did not wear makeup. I think of Guns N' Roses like I think about Skid Row, Motley Crue, and Tesla. They were hair bands, but had a little more of an edge that the Bon Jovi and Poison like bands.
Check out this shot and look at all of the hairspray! :)
