For you OOTP5 players out there, I have a couple questions their website didn't give me an answer to. I'm thinking of buying the game, but want to know more about the historical mode.

First, in hostorical mode do you have to have players already known in baseball history, or can it start from scratch with different guys. Could it even take known guys and just change their names.

Next, in historical mode does the game account for era factors? Like in Diamond Mind each season is assigned baseline era variables to match the style of play to that in history. For example, guys in the deadball era had atrocious fielding percentages because of lousy fields and poor equipment. Does OOTP factor that type of thing in?

Thanks

If I understand correctly, your first question was can you have fictional players in a "historic" mode (say starting in 1900 or whatever year you want)? If so, then the answer is yes.

You can adjust for various eras unless you want to play under the "manager mode" (which adds kind of a role playing aspect) because it doesn't let you edit things like that. But a normal game you can make era adjustments.

Can't you make your adjustments and then start a managerial career (You could at least the last time I tried)? (You just won't be able to make further adjustments until after you retire).

Right - you just wouldn't be able to make them throughout the 100 years of baseball history - whatever era you start with - you are 'stuck' with.

yep. I didn't explain it very well. You can make adjustments before the career starts, but you won't be able to make adjustments as you go along.

Leonidas, like they mentioned, if you play in manager mode, you can't adjust anything after you start the first game so you'll have to play in regular mode.

Yes, the game not only adjusts hitters tendencies but pitching rotations, starter innings, relief staff, fielding and other traits in the early 20th century. But....I've only played with the real rosters from that time so I don't know if the game configures realistic fielding percentages for fictional players if you begin in 1900. Also, if you add fictional players, it will add relievers that you do not need.
