Crapshoot

So its the time of the year again, when the federal government seeks to remind me that I should contribute to its coffers - again. To add fun, I've spent this past year living in 2 states (MA, CA). I was going to download Turbo Tax from Amazon, but I'm curious if those of you who are Turbo Tax users know if it allows you to purchase a 2nd state return to go with the 1 free return listed below. Is this fairly easy to do, or should I ask Turbo Tax explicitly before purchasing anything?

You can just do it straight online. It will do both states.

Despite being a long-time Turbo Tax user, I have switched to doing the state taxes online a few years ago.
This year was the quickest yet: filed Feb 8, had the refund deposted Feb 15.

I did turbo tax this year as I usually do. Filed Sun Feb 3 had both refunds by the 10th. Fastest I've ever gotten them

Do it right online dont buy the software.
There is no benefit to the software if you have an internet connection.
Did mine last Tuesday, Have Refunds from Fed and NC already and SC has auto deducted their money.

I didn't even realize you coild do them online through the IRS site? If it is as good as Turbotax I will switch over to save the 60 bucks for fed and state.

I discovered a reason that online is not any good. Either that, or the usability on the online version sucks. For some reason when filing a partial year in Virginia (but not DC), Turbo Tax Online does not ask what portion of your itemized deductions should be applied to Virginia. In the desktop version that isn't a huge deal because you can just go into the individual forms and change it. I don't see a way to do that in the Online version. So instead we're going to have to file a paper version of my wife's partial year Virginia return.
