ESPN has upgraded its NFL analyst lineup by hiring Cris Carter, late of HBO's Inside the NFL, and jettisoning Sean Salisbury.
ESPN's statement on Salisbury's departure was less than effusive: "Sean Salisbury has made many contributions to our efforts for the past 12 years. We thank him and wish him all the best."
Part of Salisbury's statement read: "I have created a brand and it’s time to expand into other opportunities in TV, radio, Internet, publishing, movies and public speaking, among others."
Scratching your head over the "movies" reference? Lest you forget, he appeared in The Benchwarmers and The Longest Yard.
Question: Who's going to try to bully John Clayton now?

Steve Czaban was talking about this on Fox sports radio this morning and they were killing Salisbury. It was pretty funny.

I was going to use the title "Salisbury Staked by ESPN".. but I think I've reached my quota of horrible puns for the day.

I never liked Sean. He reminded me of a white version of Jaime Dukes. Instant mutage when they both speak. However, Cris !@#$%^& Carter?! My 5 year old can give better analysis than that man. Guh.

Good riddance. Normally hiring Cris Carter wouldn't be an upgrade, but anybody is an upgrade over Sean Salisbury.

Could this possibly mean that Steven A. Smith could be going soon as well?

Salisbury couldn't make a point without using his ex-jock yell or belittle Clayton. He was never insightful. I don't think many will lose sleep over this decision.

+1 for the title. Bravo, Foz...

As long as he doesn't use his cellphone for the promotional pictures.

i watch Sportscenter in the morning, when i'm on the couch with my dog eating breakfast and dreading having to go into work. i like the PTI format, where you can see what topics are coming up. Sportscenter is great for stuff like that. seriously, people can mock it all they want but who seriously has time for in-depth, Pulitzer prize calibre coverage? i just want a brief snapshot of the sportsnews of the day in an easy to digest format while i'm still getting my bearings together.
i love people who try to put Sportscenter down. ITS FUCKING SPORTS! sports itself doesn't matter one bit in the world, and now all of sudden you're going to poke fun at the people who cover it. if you people had such high standards of broadcast journalism you're looking under the wrong rock.

Guess that answer's that question. I hate people who ask a sports network to be in depth, and want quality coverage too.
I'm glad Salisbury is gone. The cellphone incident (where he took pictures of his corndog and showed it to co-workers) was bad enough. It did kind of tick me off when he was on national television telling Arkansas recruits not to come to Arkansas.
Yeah. Later.
