Was listening to the radio on the way home from work, and Sean Hannity was going on about how the Democrats are "playing on a culture of fear to convince you to give up your freedoms."

He was talking, in this context, about increased government spending and the attendant reach of its tentacles into daily life...but I couldn't help but think about Bush's insistence that the government be allowed to wiretap without warrants to "protect America," or any of the myriad other encroachments on civil liberties in the last six and a half years.

So is that irony, or just willful blind dumbassery? Or, in this context, is there even a difference?

I don't care where it's coming from, I'm tired of anyone who brings up terrorism (or in this case, government spending), being immediately accused of "fear mongering".

Training our politicians to be reluctant to bring up such things isn't a great idea.

It's different for "thier side" and that is all there is to it. That swings both ways with the great defenders of our great political leaders.
