so i just finished reading World War Z, fictional novel about a zombie war that devastates the planet. great read.
i'm in Barnes and Noble over the weekend and i just couldn't decide what to get. i was leaning towards Neuromancer by William Gibson (provided the inspiration for a lot of the Matrix movies) but i couldn't find the book. so maybe one of you guys have read something that'll be of interest. here are my stipulations:
1. i'm tired of these fictional novels where the heroes always win despite overwhelming odds, you know, when all hope looks lost they somehow unravel the mystery to the puzzle and prevail. i'm done with those. no more.
2. i don't mind non-fiction, but nothing political. i like learning about different topics so i don't shy away from non-fiction.
have at it, Hoss.

Try "Caught Stealing" by Charlie Huston.
It's pretty sweet. It's first book in a triology. It's crime fiction type stuff. It's very well written and pretty funny. It's a very fast read. Once it gets going, it never stops.
I loved "World War Z".

Have you read Gaiman before? Good Omens is a really good read and quite funny.

what about that book that goes into what would happen to the Earth if there weren't any more humans on it? or am i thinking of a documentaty on Discovery Channel?
no crime-related stuff. good guys always win. most of those crime mystery novels basically follow the same premise: bad guy will lose, just a matter of how.

Discovery Channel did something about this, but there is a book as well.

I have not read it, but there are a lot of reader reviews to go through.

All of the Gideon Defoe, Pirates! adventures are hysterical.
