Yeah, that's right... I bought an 80 gig (6G) Black iPod Classic instead of an 80 gig Microsoft Zune. (Then I bought an invisible shield for it so it wouldn't get scratched.)

You can call me stupid if you want now.

I'd get an iPod as well. I'm really liking the podcasts that are out there for free. Learn Spanish, listen to news, etc. It's great.

you don't need an iPod to listen to podcasts

I love my Zune, I have hacked it to be a portable HD so I don't have to use their software to move my music onto it, and I have a few other hacks for it as well..

Also, with M$ opening the source for it, I expect some new apps to come out for it here soon.

I just got an iPod 80GB classic as well. What's so much better about the Zune? Or is it that they do the same thing and the Zune is cheaper?

I have bought a lot of my music on iTunes, so that's why I went with the iPod. I wasn't sure if the Zune or any other player would play music bought on iTunes.

Regardless of the hardware, iTunes is superior software. Besides, why would you think this is stupid? Apple has 87% of the market.

Good points have been said here...

You do if you run outside or on a treadmill.

I spent $250 on a Jeremy Roenick throwback Chicago Blackharks red away jersey.

Whatever floats your boat, man...

I just bought Banana Bread Beer. It smelled like banana, tasted fairly nutty, and was excellent.

since when is the Zune good enough to make one reconsider buying their ipod? when have the two devices ever been considered equals to put one in a position where they are concerned if they made the right decision?

Zune has its good points (wireless music sharing), or i should say "point", but that is the only thing i can think of it does that an ipod can't.

Back when I had this debate, I didn't want an Ipod because of the trends towards it and because none of the subscription music services supported it. Rhapsody does now, apparently. But that's okay. Zune works well and it's improved. Not perfect, but no worse than a player that might fail to be well supported someday or stop being supported by the subscription service I use. Zune service isn't amazing, but it doesn't stop me from getting files from other services and putting them on there.

But if your goal isn't to use a subscription service, IPod probably makes more sense for all of the reasons the owners here will tell you, plus how seamless it seems to be to use podcasts and how stocked the ITunes store seems to be if you're into that.

With all the amount of 3rd party docks, accesories, et al, Apple should be the obvious choice.

And the software rocks. It's one thing thats probably good to be with "stupid" on.

If they made an Ipod Touch type Zune with about 64 gigs of flash ram would be the only thing that would even make me consider buying anything but an ipod for large file storage.

Their FAQ suggests otherwise, so unless these are tracks you ripped from CD using their software, I'd be curious to know how you got them to work.

I downloaded them. They were mp3s. I put them on my ipod and hit play. That is all.

I think they are talking about the playsforsure rhapsody stuff, not the direct download stuff

There are mp3 players that are not iPod or Zune, just FYI. ;)

Apple has 87% of the market.

That is only a marginal indicator of quality because their market share is largely due to the earlier models of the iPod which were light years ahead of their competition. These days there are at least two other worthy competitors (Zen and Microsoft) that deliver products with comparable feature sets and at comparable cost.

Also, a majority of the people that buy iPods have no idea what they're doing and are just buying what they see.

subscription rhapsody does not work on the ipod... none do.

I didn't read closely enough, but just googled it and confirmed that it indeed doesn't support Rhapsody To Go. Rhapsody didn't support IPod at all back when I was in the market to replace my mp3 player, so it was never a serious consideration, but this just adds to it.

13. How does my iPod work with Rhapsody?

Rhapsody can transfer all your personal MP3s and any downloads you purchase from Rhapsody to your iPod. However, the iPod does NOT support Rhapsody To Go our any Rhapsody subscription music at this time.

I had a Creative Zen before I bought my Zune. But Rhapsody stopped supporting it after two years. I didn't want to get into another situation where I had to buy a new player every year or so, because it didn't support the subscription service I was using. So I'm glad Zune has its own, even though I continue to use Rhapsody downloads and load them onto it myself.

How about larger scren for viewing, more colors on the screen as well, M$ actually opening the source code now for it.

Compatibility with almost all music services out there (They are not compatible with Audible which pisses me off).

It's not what it can and can't do, it's a preference issue. The ipods have been notorious for breaking easily and having shitty support, thats why people look for anything different.

I would buy an ipod over ANYTHING the market has to offer. iTunes software, imo, is the best there is.

I bought a bottle of pink lemonade at bowling tonight. My bowling was still shitty, thanks to a fucked up oil pattern on the lanes. I bought a Pepsi later on, and my bowling improved. I don't think the Pepsi is responsible for the change in my bowling. I think it's because I finally figured out just how badly the lanes were fucked up.
