Is there a way I can sort by obviously artist, and then after that sort by album release year?

I'd much prefer to have my CDs ordered chronologically instead of alphabetically, but unsure if it's possible.

You can add "Release Date" to the title bar in iTunes, but if you ripped a lot of your music off of CDs, that field might not be filled out (probably depends on what program you used).

Keep clicking on "album" until it says "Album by year ^" (that's an arrow pointing up)

Thanks, guys. Sab, I was aware that some of the music might not have a year filled in but I'm ok with going back and fixing all of the missing ones - maybe not right now, but when I have some bored-free time.

Thanks Pass! Is this going to convert into the Ipod as well?

I wasn't aware of what Pass suggested.

I just looked through the menus on my iPod and I didn't see any place to sort by release date. I wonder if it's possible to sort the iPod through iTunes. Ima try it out.

Another question:

I have one CD that I love, I played it so much it is scratched up. So I used my brothers CD to put it on my computer. It plays fine on his Ipod and it plays fine in my Itunes. But when it plays in my Ipod, 3 or 4 of the songs get about halfway through and skip to the next track. Keep in mind that doesn't happen when I play it from my computer- if I didn't own an Ipod I'd never know there was a problem. Also, when they sync it gives the entire album crazy credit for playcount. For example, all those songs even the ones that skip are credited with 41 plays, when it's more like 6 or 7. That isn't a big deal to me, just wondering if I'm going to have to erase all those songs and re-rip them...

Well, you can view the music on your iPod through the iTunes software, but sorting my Album release date does not save onto your iPot.

On labor intensive way to do it would be to go through and edit the "Sort Album" value for all of your songs.

Connect your iPod to your computer, click on the "Music" tab under "name iPod". Right click on the song and click "Get Info". Go to the "Sorting" tab and on the right you'll see a field called "Sort Album". For the songs on the earliest album, put 1. The second release put 2, etc. That will sort by release on your iPod.

I imagine that would be a bit labor intensive, but I don't see another way. Maybe someone else knows.

dola,

You may want to use letters or something if you have a ton of releases from one artist since it seems to sort alphabetically (11 will come before 2, for instance).

Maybe it's not syncing to your ipod, since itunes thinks it's already there? Try removing the songs from itunes, then syncing, then check to make sure the songs aren't on your ipod. Then add the songs to itunes and sync again.

Or maybe just use the year it was released.
