Anyone else here on this? I just joined this morning. Or are there any similar sites out there that do this sort of thing (social networking combined with book reviews) better?

Added. This is a relief -- your ratings are top-heavy, too. I'm trying to make it so my average rating is in the middle, at 3 stars, but I think that as a result, I've just been giving almost everything a bunch of 3s. I'll have to revisit this at some point and organize my ratings better, thereby taking all the fun out of the whole thing.

I don't read many books I don't enjoy. I think I generally have a good idea that it will be at least a "3 star" book before I ever open it up.

Yah, so I created a FOFC group if anyone wants to join. It's public, so come and go as ya please.

I'm tempted to join, but I *hate* 1-5 ratings... Doesn't provide nearly enough points of comparison that 1-10 ratings do.

They have a section where you can write your thoughts on the book, which is where the real meat of your opinions are expressed.

I haven't actually done that part yet. I'd really like to see those ratings used quantitatively to give me recommendations, without having to deal with reviews at all.

I hadn't seen this before. I do use www.reader2.com though I haven't used the social networking side of it much. There's a bookshelf app on Facebook too that allows you to share reviews and books read.

Bump -
I've been on goodreads for awhile but I recently checked out librarythings.com. It seems to be a really good site with a pretty big community. Maybe I just didn't dig deep enough but I didn't really feel like I was part of a social community on goodreads. LibraryThings has a pretty cool monthly thing where they get about 30-40 books that have not been released yet. You can request as many books as you want and at the end of the month they dish them out. They normally have around 20 copies of each book, and with around 1000 people asking for a specific book your chances are not too good but it's still cool.
