I have 21-22 players at all time on my roster.

I've got 22 but I would liek to have a few more so that I can have more freedom to move players around, and so that I am not depending so much on the pull of the week.

I think i have 23, with 2 for sale.

So if anyone wants an inadequate keeper or a clown, check out Gvegas FC

Should you pull players from your youth squad each week even if the squad is wretched?

Easy Mac

you can, and you may get an inadequate keeper, but remeber each pull costs you $2000, and it takes that much to transfer list or release them as well.

So its about $4000 a player.

ohhh i didnt know it was 2,000 a player. Ill pass on that untill i get it up to poor at least. Its 2,000 to release a player??? whenever i fire someone it doesnt say that it costed me 2,000.

FYI - I have 23 players (two teams + a coach)

Yeah, I've heard about people having 2 teams.

One for friendly's and one for Conference matches. Whats the point of doing that?? Play your young guys in the friendly for the exp??

I have 25, but 2 A-teamers injured.

Havok -- Having 2 teams maximizes training if you use an A and B team and schedule a friendly every week. It does no good to play the same guys twice in the same week, and you are risking more injury.

That's why someone who trains defenders say, will switch to a 5-4-1 and have 2 teams. Run effectively, you'll have 10 defenders getting skill training every week. So, play your B-team in friendlies for training. If a player doesn't play, he doesn't get any training (unless your training stamina or set pieces, I think).

ahhh ok... that makes a little more sense. So if i train defenders and a guy doesnt play defense that weak he wont get any skill in defending??

dacman

He won't get any training in defending...correct. He also won't if he doesn't play at all or if his last game before training (usually the friendlies) he wasn't playing defense.

So if i train defense one week and i have a guy who played defense in the Conference game but he played Midfield in the friendly then he wont get training in defense that week??

Thats kinda lame

I have 21 players excluding my coach but hope to have that up to 23 soon.

Recently, I have had as many as 38 players... but that was when I was aggressively daytrading players. Now, I'm down to 26 or so, I think, and am looking to finance a stadium expansion.

I have a whopping 18 players, due to financial cutbacks. Once I get out of the 250k debt I'm in, that number is going to increase to at least 20, prolly 21.

wow quiksand!!! thats alot :)
You must have a good team and pull in alot of money each week to afford the weekly salary's of 38 guys.

Many of the training questions are in the Rules page. It contains a lot of good information. Might be worth a read.

I may be mistaken but I was under the impression that it DOES do some good to play both games, even if the experience you get from the friendly is quite a bit less than your league games.

daedalus - your player will get experience for the second game, but no extra training...so most people think it's worthless, since you need to play ten friendlies to get the experience of one series game.

Edit: Added 'extra'

The disadvantage of not playing a second team is that if your players don't play in a game that week, they don't train that week. So if you only play your first team, you are only training one team. If you play two full teams, all players get credit for playing that week and thus get credit for training.

That's why, ideally, I plan on having 24 guys on my team at all time: 11 first team, 11 second team, clown, and coach. Right now, I have 22 as I'm 2 short on my 2nd team trainees.

I currently have 31, with 15 on the transfer list, but I'm cleaning out the old team and bringing in new blood while also daytrading goalies.

Actually not. I have a fledgling team in its first season, still with a tiny stadium. But my goal of cycling through players is to make money... and letting cash sit in my account doesn't do me any good. I'm glad to pay some guy $1.200 in salary for the week if I'm in transition between buying him for $50,000 and selling him for $90,000. Even after the transaction costs, I still come out well ahead.

But now, I have churned enough money to field a pretty respectable and fairly young team, and I'm transitioning into a more stable mode for my second season, that coming up.

As I mentioned, I don't disagree that it is worth quite a bit less than the league games. On the other hand, my team started out (and, obviously it can be argued, "and what's different NOW?") decidedly pathetic. But I did have a few kids who had trainable potential at a couple of the same positions. Basically, I ended up playing a couple of those kids in both league and friendly games and gave those kids some crash course ed-ma-kay-shun. Even 1/10th experience eventually adds up. Especially if you can sneak a few international games in there.

For me, that (limited number of players training) was worth it because I wanted to have my team be competitive as soon as I can. Now that I can at least compete against my serie-mate ("hey, they ONLY beat me by 2 now!"), splitting up my squad and playing the kids in the friendlies makes more sense.

What I wanted to express was that there CAN be a different approach to this game. I mean, I definitely enjoy reading and learning from DK's, horned's, Ardent's, ice's and QS's experience and I'm definitely stealing ideas and knowledge they have gained (er, that would be "sample"). But I don't want to necessarily play my game as them. I want my own experience, even if based at least some to the knowledge they've gained. If that makes any sense. :)

In a sense, yes, it is irritating. And, no, it's not ultra realistic. On the other hand, forcing you, the manager, to make a choice makes it more interesting.

Currently I have 4 players and 22 other lumps of flesh.

Daedalus - Yeah, that makes perfect sense...my goal is to develop a viable 3-4-3 offense, since most think that running the 3-4-3 is akin to suicide due to the emphasis put on midfield. I'm a big advocate of making the unpopular strategy work :) But it does seem that in the beginning you pretty much have to rely on the structure of the game (ie run a 3-5-2 or similar formation) to be competitive at all.

Once I get a feel for the game though, watch out :)

I run a 3-4-3 offense because of training forwards. To improve my midfield rating, find wings with good playmaking and play them toward the middle. This will help your midfield and take away from your attack. But, with 3 forwards, you should get good attack ratings from those 3.

3-5-2 is more importatant in the upper divisions. Focus on a formation that trains the most players. Use orders to help cover any weakness.
