Funny story showed up on most of the tech blogs today. First place I saw it was actually slashdot, but I've seen it reported on others since..

Brief at /. (http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/04/15/1612238).
Story at audioholics (http://www.audioholics.com/news/industry-news/blue-jeans-strikes-back).

Since I can't seem to cut and paste the text from the story, the jist of it is that Monster Cables (you know, the people who make massively overpriced HDMI cables among other things and whose high-end speaker cables perform no better than a coat hanger (http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/03/audiophiles-cant-tell-the-difference-between-monster-cable-and/)...) decided to sue Blue Jeans Cable (http://www.bluejeanscable.com/) over some supposed trademark infringement. What they didn't realize (or did they) is that the president of Blue Jeans used to be a lawyer and took them to task in a response letter to the ceast and desist notice, basically pointing out all the flaws with their C&D and also noting that a brief search on Monster's past shows that they have done this to a lot of smaller cable vendors/manufacturers to try and get settlements. What apparently happens is that the small company gets flustered and offers a settlement instead of actually looking into the matter. On the one hand, the cables at Blue Jeans are still costlier than they are from monoprice, but I'm thinking I'm going to buy a cable or 2 from them anyway. I really like the idea of the "little guy standing up for what's right" especially in the face of a company as scummy as Monster and their stupid overpriced crap.
