Head on collision with a reputed methadone patient who swerved into my lane, almost as though he had intent. I was not injured, although I imagine this is what David Carr feels like on a Monday. The other driver was taken to the hospital. Both cars looked pretty rough.

Appreciate the concern, but 24 hours has now gone by, I was looked at by the EMT's, and I never lost consciousness.

Just kidding. :)

And assuming you don't live in a no-fault state.

If you've been up for 24 continuous hours, you probably should get checked out again.

Sounds like it could have been very serious - happy to hear it wasn't and that you're ok.

I'm guessing a methadone patient probably doesn't have great car insurance..
The important thing is that you are ok. Just remember that lingering effects can show up days/weeks later. Take care of yourself and I'm glad you weren't hurt worse.

There probably wouldn't have been an accident had someone not been driving with their hood up.

On a serious note, glad you're ok.

I saw that happen to a car on a 55mph road once. Hood flipped up and back onto the windshield.

Here's actually the best part of the story: One of the responders was this dude Frank, who is apparently my mayor. I told him that I was on my way to get some ricotta cheese. His wife dropped off some ricotta cheese today. So, I survived a head on collision, and then my mayor gave me cheese.

Must be something in the water out there in NM....
I'll post my favorite picture of the accident later tonight.

Good thing you are alright... though get yourself checked out. Whiplash and stuff like that doesn't necessarily manifest itself immediately.

Always go to the hospital/urgent care to get checked out after a car accident. Always, always, always.
For one, this is your health you're talking about. Second, if you should start feeling sore in a few days, it is going to be that much more difficult to prove it was the car accident that caused it. Finally, in an accident you are able by law to collect from both your insurance (to pay the medical bills) and the insurance of the person at fault (as a "punitive measure").
I was in a collision a few months ago in which I hurt by back a bit - went to the ER for xrays, 2 weeks of PT, and pain medication. My insurance paid for it all and I just settled last week with the insurance of the asshat who hit me - a nice big check is on the way.

Yes please do.
My wife was hit by a drunk driver back in 1999, we did not settle with the insurance company until 2005. We fought every step of the way. She suffered a head injury that has since affected her short term memory, and the insurance company fought us over it, we had to go through several specialists over the years, racking up some serious bills.
The crappy thing about this though, I want to say it was almost right after we settled, my wife was diagnosed with a back problem attributed to the car crash...and because we settled, we can't go back now.
Anyways, always get checked out, it's in your best interest.
